End of July Trip

Post by obelix19 »

Hi guys, I know the trip is a long time away but you can never have enough info.

There will be 5 of us going and we are staying in the Leidseplein area of Amsterdam. I was looking for some general information about the best coffeeshops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the area.

We are planning to do the Heineken tour, Artis Zoo and rent a water bike if we can find one. We will be heading into the RLD on 1 night, again are there any good places to check out or avoid? Should we look at doing anything else?

We will be pretty close the the Rockerij , Noon, Happy Feelings, Rookies, Mellow Yellow, Little and Dolphins? Should any of these places be avoided? Also just a short walk is Barneys Lounge, I've read thats the weed is expensive so is it still worth a visit?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Peace

Welcome to the forum.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

You sound like a first timer.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Enjoy

Since you've already pointed out some shops near your hotel, have a look at the Coffeeshop Reviews forum for more info. As far as eats, there is plenty of info in the Food forum. Have a look at the Club Guide but together by a member here. https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8099
Don't limit yourself to within your hotel, Amsterdam is a compact city. Most places can be reached on foot in less than 45 minutes. I would also suggest making a trip to de Pijp and visit Katsu, de Graal, Papillon, Kabouter and Club Media. Also in the warmer months nothing beats grabbing a few beers from Albert Heijn and taking a couple of j's to Vondelpark. Rick's Cafe off Damstraat can't be beat for a puff and a pint.

Peace,
Balou

Thanks for the info Balou, I've been reading through the reviews and it looks like Easy Times, Dolphins and Rockerij seem to be pretty good and right on the door step of the apartment we will be staying in. I've heard good things about the de Pijp area and will probably head there for the market they run, and ofcourse a smoke. Cheers for the nightclub guide will probably check out the melkweg and paradiso.

Is the zoo any good? I think it will give us a good break and time to relax and actually have a holiday. We will be exploring the city, renting bikes and cycling around and just sight seeing, relaxing and having a good time :D

A buddy and me spent a few hours one morning at the Artis Zoo in June 2010.

We smoked some Super Lemon Haze from Greenplace right before we went in.

There seemed to be several different classes of schoolkids having a fieldtrip that day which actually seemed to liven things up.

Definetly worth spending a few hours wondering around looking at all the different animals.
