Urk to ban cannabis.

Post by Boner »

One of Hollands' most conservative villages, Urk, is about to ban hash and weed from their streets. Although the Dutch Law tolerates the possession of up to 5 grams of cannabis, Urk wants to impose the ban in March, a majority of the local council decided.

If this becomes reality, and Urk can go against the Dutch Tolerance Policy of the government, it would implicate that cities who decided against the Weedpass, can also decide not to comply with the governments demands.

I am curious to see how this works out, the final decision will be made on March 3.

Methinks they mean ban it from being sold discreetly from within licensed premises.

They will actually be forcing the trade to the streets.

Nol said there aren't any coffeeshops in Urk and the ban is to stop people smoking it on the street, if upheld (I believe the final say happens March 3rd) he is planning a 4:20 march to see if they arrest him for doing just that.

Seems like a fair way to handle the situation. I love smoking outdoors as much as the next guy, doesn't mean the family walking past me appreciates it. Or that I want people driving while smoking and putting lives in danger.

As long as I can still buy it, possess it, and smoke it "privately", I don't see the harm in a law like that. Ever been to a place that had no open-container laws? Fun for a day but if you live there, not so much.

Much smarter/ more reasonable than a weed-pass idea.
