Holiday/job opportunity available; One week in Amsterdam....

Post by PorgaLily »

Hi,
I have a unique employment opportunity for someone;
My partner and I are going to Amsterdam in late August, but as I am disabled we need a third person with us to make it work.
I receive Direct Payments, which is a government funded scheme for hiring the help I need in an autonomous way (they give me the money, I have the power). I need to hire someone for one week, plus travel time. There will be approx 3 - 6 hours 'work' per day @ £8.25p/hr, and I can org a 'during travel' pay rate that will cover your flight costs. The main drawback is that you won't be paid until mid September, after the holiday, and by cheque. The pay will be taxed (don't worry, I sort that out).

The high quality, very central, s/catering (and smoking; yeah!) accomodation, plus bike, is completely free :D .
You will need your own holiday money to cover the usual; food, weed, fun etc. You will have to come to Bristol in the interim to meet us, sign paperwork and pay a deposit (to cover your flight, it will be returned with Sept pay). You will also need to be able to get to us here, or in Bucks - Luton Airport - when we leave for the 'Dam, Aug date TBC.

No previous 'care' experience is necessary, there will be no icky nursing stuff of any kind. The job title is Personal Travel Assistant and apart from some lifting, is mostly hanging out, smoking and checking out coffeeshops.

Neccessary Attributes
- You must have some previous Amsterdam experience, knowledge and confidence.
- You must be physically fit and strong - there will be heavy lifting (eg equipment, wh/chair, luggage).
- We need someone thoughtful, trustworthy, intelligent and with an appreciable sense of humour.
- You will need to be clean and tidy, or have the ability to act like it for a week.

Forseeable Duties
- Taking care of all baggage during travel.
- Carrying wheelchair in and out of accomodation (my partner will carry me).
- Scouting the wheelchair friendliness of routes to coffeeshops, and the coffeeshops themselves.
- Undertaking munchie missions (on foot, or you have a bike provided for duration of holiday).
- 'Babysitting' me while my partner takes some time. Will inc making tea, skinning up, watching films and eating chocolate.
- Shoving off now and then to do your own thing.
- Being generally likeable and easy to live with for a week.

If you have any questions about this, please post them and I will reply. If you wish to apply for the job, please can you PM me with answers to the following questions;
- What is your Amsterdam experience?
- Why would you be good for this job?
- Please tell me; what is your favorite film, person, song, book, place, wish, possesion, animal, pasttime, or memory? And why? [pick only ONE]

I will be in touch if interested, and will post when I have decided.

Thanks for reading,
Porg :)

As a WRO I fully understand the principles of direct payments, self directed support is what they call it north of the border..
It's really good to see your putting the money to good use. I'm all for helping the disabled and if I could get time off then I'd be ya smoke buddy and gofa :wink:
I really hope you get sorted with a companion to help you.

Thanks guys :)
I very much appreciate the support.
Gapie - we ideally need someone at the start of the journey, but thank you for the offer. If nothing else, maybe we could meet for a smoke when I get there, s'only 6 months to go.
