A Legal question, of sorts.

Post by donpacino »

Hey guys, i dunno if im posting in the right section but i thought someone may be able to help me.

To cut a long story short, last august me and the wife was caught at french euro tunnel customs with 14gms and a couple of space cakes,it all went in my name and we was let off with a 100euro fine and sent on our way.

My question is, will there be something on an international database that will show up when i go through english/dutch customs at the airport? And will we be automatically searched etc? A mate of mine says there is and not to risk bringing any back but i have not heard of this before so thought he might be being a bit paranoid.

Im not too sure on this, but if you were caught in France, it shouldnt be anything to do with customs in the Netherlands. But dont bring any back and then you wont be in this predicament. :-)

I got nailed coming into Edinburgh Airport some years ago. I had about 12g on me and a mate had 19g. Names were taken , no fines ! .

Since then i've been caught twice (at the Dam end..lucky eh !! ) and nothing further. Not really sure if this reply helps any......

I'd say you'd be ok, I got arrested many years ago an had to return for the court case, I never went back and when I did return I assumed it would be on my passport details etc, but no, nothing happened and I've been back 6 times since and never had a problem once. Even got a enhanced disclosure and it's clean

No , i wasn't caught outside , (i'm not sure if you could be anyway..... as it's tolerated ) but i got caught trying to take some back with me. Got nailed at the scanning machines , they must have seen me coming and said..."check the neck of this cunt !" . They rifled through my bags and trainers and giot it from there. I almost missed the flight coz of it (the time the cops took to get to me ..mind you an extra 24hrs in the dam would have been sweet , the cost for an additional last minute airfare...not so.

I hope for Don's sake you are correct.

I do know that the EU has in the past few years significantly upgraded their IT systems and communications when it comes to border crossings. They are much better able to track how long (for example) American visitors have been in the EU (Schengen area).

I would think, therefore, that they are able to access criminal records, etc from other areas. I know from experience that the Canadians can see your US arrest record at their borders.

Lets look it this way, if you're caught with say 10 grams in Schiphol they'll tell you off and take the weed off you (tell them you're a regular visitor and you'd like it put in a safe place so you can pick it up on your return - this is a joke btw), if you're caught in the UK & unless the law has changed it's a fine of £70?? and a caution.

i got caught once at the french side of the crossing to england, for a very small amount, no fine just name taken and form filling etc.

i also worried about how this would affect my travel in the future, but i have since been to USA, Australia, New Zealand s.amercia and asia and never had any sort of 'extra' attention from any border authority.

in my case it was all paper work at the border, no computers involved during the process, so it seems like it may have been filed away and not appeared on any passport databases.

I have had little incident at three points of entry/exit Swiss-Italian border , French customs at Eurotunnel , and Schipol each time i had a little percy which was confiscated and that was that no paperwork no fine etc . Everytime i have been polite and courteous and pointed out it was percy it helped alot that i could speak Italian at the Swiss/Italian border or i think that might have been a dodgy one  ask no questions i tell you no lies

Haha! Swiss-Italian border is definitely one to avoid! It's easy to be lulled into a false sense of security when travelling across Europe and then, suddenly, a friggin Swiss customs checkpoint appears! I'd allow a little extra time and use either France or Austria to cross into Italy. Also, Italian fuzz are VERY hot on drugs these days (as expained to me by one I know personally who is an officer in the Italian equivalent of the anti-terrorist squad - one who, by the way, smokes weed AND does coke - many of 'em are brainwashed idiots who will view and treat you like a serious criminal if you are caught with 10g of weed on you!!) and there is more than one type of cop that can routinely stop your car in Italy: Traffic Cops ('Polizia Stradale'); The Police ('Polizia' - different outfit to the traffic cops); Finance Police ('Guardia Di Finanza' - especially looking for contraband and trained to spot the signs...); Paramilitary Police - 'Carabinieri' - unlikely these will stop you unless they're actually after you in particular.
