strain: Amnesia Haze
cs: Nachtegaal
€: 10/gr
odor: lemon-sugar, fuel oil-citrus when pulled apart

This one, obviously, is an indoor strain. (I smoked almost as much indoor as outdoor on this trip; I had to hedge my bets.) It has bag appeal. The thing is frosty on every surface. The smoke is smooth.

“Let's see now ... Where was I, what was I doing?” This is the essence of the Amnesia experience, I guess. They could've called it Very Short-Term Memory Loss Haze. There is no headlock to speak of, but I keep catching myself thinking about what I'm thinking. The result is neither unpleasant nor pleasant.

I am pulled into my head, and that's fine, because it's calm in there. Trying to read is hopeless since my thoughts are just chasing their own tails ... OK, it's time for bed now.

So I get lost in my thoughts. I don't have the cannabinoid receptors to appreciate this stuff.

Quicky- I'm really enjoying this report, especially all the details about strains I haven't smoked before. Also, your pictures are really great as well. Thanks!

geeks: Oh, great. Now my travelogue has to compete with the mother-of-all-gourmet-pot-reports, the resurrected June 2010 thread. Just great :)

strain: Gruis Haze (indoors)
cs: Yamama
€: 7.50/gr
odor: sweet, grassy

This purchase was the result of my farcical knowledge of Dutch. I confused the word gruis (meaning loose, as in 'shake') for buiten (meaning outdoor). I didn't bother to photograph this item since it wasn't much to look at and since doing so would've only made it more apparent that I am a fool.

The Gruis Haze smoked smoothly and stayed lit between hits. It made me feel happy. It made me feel awake. I was no longer feeling bummed about all the crap weed I had run into so far. I tried Yamama's haze at the end of a long evening of smoking; perhaps some of its effects were masked by the lingering cannabinoids of the Amnesia. Regardless, the Gruis was able to cast the jet-lagged darkness of the early morning in a fresh, happy light.

I didn't end up following through, but at the time I pledged to try the Gruis Haze again the next day. Now I wish I had.

5 euro's for 1 gram.
Really lovely smell.
Also the outdoor Purple Power for 4 euro's / gram at Chapiteau is quite good.
Its called Purple Poison as its somehow derived from Durban Poison. They were calling it Purple Poisson until I pointed out that meant fish is French :D Will try to take a photo of some tonight.

I think its an excellent smoke for the price, not as good as the Afghan outdoor they had last year.

I had some Basque outdoor from Anyday this week. Not bad but at 12.50 a gram, I am not sure why I bought it (I loath to spend more than 10e/g for anything) except to say I tried something from the Basque region.

And both of us will always and forever be put to shame by the epic adventures of luvtick (and her trusty bonglord). :D ... Really though I'm excited that there are so many great reports to read- especially lately. It seems like every time I check there are more good reports than I can get through.

Really- I am loving this report and taking all sorts of mental notes for my upcoming trip. Also, I'm really digging the pictures you are including with each installment. I've found many of them really witty as well as fun to look at.

Geekymonkey, always the diplomat …

Marco: I think it's safe to say that we both like Chapiteau. Can you please explain to me why more people on these boards don't visit this great little shop? As for Chapiteau's Purple Poison and Any Day's Blue Rhino (€12.50/g, grown outdoors in Basque Country), you're giving away the story! :)

Wish I'd been there for Chap's outdoor Affie, BTW.

It is a shame, indeed. Whenever I walk by Yo-Yo, it's closed. This report (once I get my ass in gear and post all of it) will be incomplete. After all, Yo-Yo is the city's most dedicated purveyor of buitenweit.

Which varieties did you enjoy the most? What were the highs like?

strain: Power Plant (indoors)
cs: Happy People
€: 7/gr
odor: Mild. Crushed pine needles.

Oddly, this is my first experience – ever – lighting up inside a coffeeshop. Here I am at Happy People, sitting at the counter, watching the seating area fill. I've ordered a cup of tea. I've rolled a pathetic joint that I am careful to shield from people's view.

Happy People is a popular place. The buy-and-fly clientele alone is enough to keep the 'tender busy. As I put these words to paper, every seat is occupied. (It's a Monday around midday.) The lone counter-person is efficient, so it all works. The interior of the shop deserves comment; the wall behind the bar is done up in plastic resin to resemble a castle. It evokes the elaborate, camp vibe of a funhouse.

The menu describes Power Plant as an indica, and it is. I feel the velvet turban being wound around my head, and the world begins to appear slightly distant. Power Plant is steady. No spikes here.

It's time to move on. I walk out into the brisk and sunny day. The weed gives the passing trams and bikes a quiet vividness. It's inducing a calmness without inducing sleep. I head off for the Centrum.

i am enjoying this strain-by-strain style of reporting ... it's a fresh new way of looking at the scene of shops and strains

thanks for the write-up ... looking forward to the rest

the hindu kush was top notch. had a nice comparissoon between yoyo's and club media's version. while media's was much stronger, the outdoor hindu kush had more of a nice floating high and a even better taste.

I really like this format. It's very "artsy" but the strain descriptions are very straightforward. Very good job!
Did you think you'd get rid of me that easily?

baked: If by some miracle Yo-Yo is open when I am (?) in Amsterdam this summer, I shall smoke some outdoor Hindu Kush in honor of your insightful reportage.
