strain: Africa Bambata (import)
cs: Best Friends
€: 3/gr
odor: Mild. Peppery, perhaps.

Africa Bambata is brick weed. It came in the form of a dark green wafer, not unlike the Brazilian BRtoker posted on this thread earlier on. I didn't get a photo of this sample as I skinned it up while I was lounging at Happy People.

I lit this one up at one of my favorite places to light up, the end of Tasmanstraat Pier. The Bambata came on quickly. It had a transparent, alert high. The stuff had my eyes darting from side to side, keeping me on the lookout for bicyclists, winged pedestrians or anything else that might sneak up on me. The experience was mildly edgy; at one point I was aware of a sensation of heart palpitations.

I cannot recommend the Bambata if you're planning on tackling any orienteering courses. I had to look at the map on several occasions, and once or twice I found myself struggling to gain my bearings. Had I taken this herb sitting in my hotel room, drinking a can of Palm, I probably would've thought, “This Africa Bambata is speedy and nothing else. Foo.” Having experienced it on the hoof, however, I'll say it was an edgy sativa, one that was edgier and stronger than the Amnesia from Nachtegaal.

Thanks for more great reporting!

You have some really lovely turns of phrase in your descriptions- I particularly liked "quiet vividness."

strain: Bubblegum (indoor)
cs: Lucifera
€: 9/gr
odor: piney

Lucifera was empty, except for the 'tender, who was sitting forlornly at a table near the door. I went to the counter and looked over the menu in the silence. The 'tender padded behind the bar to serve me. I asked for the Bubblegum; it was about time I tried the strain. Transaction complete, I headed for the door. The budtender, left again on his own to fight off the gloom, waved farewell from from the back of the space.

I am sitting here in the well-lit confines of De Supermarkt as I write. I am absorbing the music over the entirety of my body. There are no worries. I feel very, very good. The stone is a burgeoning pulse. I call it a stone only because I can tell the Bubblegum has a hold of my head; the effect is not transparent. There haven't been any thorny rushes to puncture my happy balloon, but, oh, yes, the effect is there. I am feeling good.

Eventually I wander out of De Supermarkt into the cold night. (The budtender is probably relieved to see the nut with the notepad go.) Cold, hot, whatever – this walk is going to be a pleasure. I've discovered I must have lost my map of the neighborhood while I was on the Africa Bambata … I march on in search of Paradox, which I believe I can locate from memory. What I end up doing is walking in two enormous loops, each of which inexplicably leads me back to the intersection of Rozengracht and Marnixstraat. I walk on, only to get lost again. I give up on Paradox. Eventually I stumble upon a stop for the 7 tram. I wait there and get aboard a tram going in the wrong direction. I get off, jump on a tram going the other way, and head for the landmarks of the Centrum. Getting lost never felt better.

This isn't going to sound right, but here goes … Lucifera's Bubblegum is the best pot I have smoked, in Amsterdam or anywhere else, in years and years. The effect is *euphoric*. With a lot a weed, I'll get a shot of euphoria right when the buzz peaks. In the case of the Bubblegum, though, the positivity stayed with me. On top of that, it has staying power and does not keel over into a stupor.

So I guess I've discovered I've got a thing for Bubblegum. For me, it's euphoric from start to finish – and what could possibly trump that? OK, I should also mention that the Bubblegum is not absolutely flawless: In a later session I realized its buzz got blotted out by the effects of other weed smoked soon before or after. But never mind. My next trip to the 'Dam will be dedicated trying everything Bubblegum, including Lucifera's, again. Wow.

That episode is awesome, bubbles gets locked in the meat freezer for about 6 hours. After ricky saves him he says something like...

'Bubs that must of been tough, take the rest of the day off and get back at her in the AM'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOGDVtz51gI

Highlights of the episode I draw my name from.

strain: Blue Rhino
cs: Any Day
€: 12.50/gr
odor: lemon-pine, with a hint of Vienna sausage

Any Day has the right idea. They carry three strains that are said to be organically grown, outdoors, somewhere in the Basque region of Spain. Two of them were out-of-stock when I visited the shop. (Their names escape me. One may be called Carameli.) The third, Blue Rhino, was what was left. I bought a gram of it.

The Blue Rhino is gourmet pot. A joint of this stuff burns like a cigar: It stays lit and the smoke is smooth and thick. The smoke leaves behind a pleasant woody/spicy flavor. The effect builds gradually … and it builds. The high is relaxing. The head is cleared and the body gets a warm body stone.

I wish I were hanging out with friends right now, sharing this weed with them. If you want to chill – I didn't say party like an adolescent – if you want to chill and live in the moment, take some of this. Blue Rhino turns the everyday into a special occasion.

Bubblegum was my favorite strain from my first trip to the 'dam back in '03. I'll have to check it out again this trip.

Also, I love that picture of the swan. Very cool. I love taking pictures of swans. (Which, given that I live in the land of alpine lakes are everywhere here.)

geeks: I like how you managed to capture the ripples of water at the base of the swan's neck.

Great reporting.

I agree about Anydays basque weed. Last November I tried something they called "Caramellice" - best outdoor I've ever seen.
