strain: Viking (outdoor)
cs: De Supermarkt
€: 5.50/gr
odor: hay

Viking has emptied my head. It is 7:30 Sunday morning, and I am walking along the footpath that forms the southern border of Amstelveen. I restock my head with thoughts as I walk -- what's going on with the Arab Spring, what I'll do once I return home, how much time I should leave to get back to Schipol.

I had been listening to Emmylou Harris last night, and now her songs are passing through my mind ... This herb is good for a walk in the drizzle and a bit of introspection. Viking's effect reminds me of the cool, confident high I get from the Diesels. The buzz is long-lasting, too. Two hours into the walk, the stuff is still going strong. It seems to be getting stonier as time passes.

De Supermarkt could've foisted the Viking upon me as Outdoor Sour Diesel. I would have believed them.

ftcarer: Thanks! I remember you mentioning Erasmuspark. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to light up there when I go back in July :)

A recap:

wow

Bubblegum (indoor, Lucifera, €9) - Some of you will say there are better examples of this strain out there, but I simply can't imagine how I'd improve upon this experience. A euphoric, whole-body stone that swells to the music, it's the best pot I've had in years. The only knock, perhaps, is that the effect can be eclipsed by a previous buzz. The herb is truly good.

special

Blue Rhino (outdoor, organically grown, from the Basque Region of Spain; Any Day, €12.50) - The thick smoke, the nice woody taste, the grown-up, nostalgic stone ... this is gourmet weed.

Mexican Honey (indoor, De Supermarkt, €9.20) - For me, a rare moment of pot spookiness. A clear high that is simultaneously creative and trippy. I wanted to go out and explore life once I came to terms with the weirdness. One of the few times I've ingested a sativa and thought, "Oh, yes."

very good

Nimbin (outdoor Nederwiet, Homegrown Fantasy, €6) - I just said that I'm not so crazy about sativas, but perhaps I should take that back. Nimbin produces a summery sense of well-being, exactly the thing for a walk.

Viking (outdoor Nederwiet, De Supermarkt, €5.50) - A cool, introspective high/stone which reminds me of a Diesel. Good staying power.

S5 Haze (indoor, 't Keteltje, €11) - A happy high coupled to a mild stone. There's no edginess to speak of, and that's just fine.

Gruis Haze (indoor, Yamama, €7.50) - Alert happiness.

Africa Bambata (brick import, Best Friends, €3) - An edgy sativa. Transparent but tweaky. If you feel like you've overpaid for this one, then you know you are a knob.

good

Power Plant (indoor, Happy People, €7) - An even stone with a wee bit of head-lock to it. Won't pin you to the chair.

Purple Poison (outdoor Nederwiet, Chapiteau, €4) - A throbbing stone which seemed to wind down too easily.

Durban Poison (outdoor Nederwiet, Homegrown Fantasy, €6) - A stone. A spiky, racy stone I've experienced too often to get excited about again.

Amnesia Haze (indoor, Nachtegaal, €10) - Very Short-Term Memory Loss Haze. A one-trick pony.

um ...

Thai (brick import, De Graal, €10/gr. or so) - A glimmer of a soft high that quickly fades to a memory of a glimmer of a soft high.

Solar Power (outdoor Nederwiet, De Graal, €6) - A harsh smoke. No discernible effect.
