Employment in coffeeshops/bars/clubs?

I'm moving to A'dam from NYC in about a month for grad school. I'm also an experienced doorman/bouncer and would like to work the coffeeshops, bars, or clubs to make some extra cash on nights and weekends. Does anyone know what shops and clubs use and might need security? I already know La Canna, Dampkring, Bulldog, and Smokey.

Also, I've heard that you may need a special license to do that kind of work, but I don't know if I could get it because I'm American. Are they strict, or will they hire me without one?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated... 39 Days till the "'Bomb" drops on the Dam.

Hoi Jbomb, Enjoying your stay I bet? Did you ever have any luck with employment there?

I am going to work at the Indica coffeeshop in Haarlem. I hope you can make it over for a smoke during your stay. I should be selling nugs by October 1st. I wonder how long it's been since an American went to work in a coffeeshop?

Cheers,

mh

haha that is crazy.
So did you get a work permit and stuff or are you just going for a long 'vacation' (as far as immigration is concerned)? How long you think you will stay?

I will have to bring my resume with me on my next trip.

Yes, resident permit and the whole works. I don't plan on coming back ever.

I have been working on this for a couple of years. I got to know the Willie Wortals peeps pretty well, and through months of conversations, and incredibly good timing, it all came together. I arrive a week from Saturday.

Any of you guys coming for Oogsfeest and the Nolympics on 28/10? Indica is the place to be....

I have been working very hard on my Dutch. The answer is no, you do not have to learn Dutch to get a resident permit as an American. Many other nationalities do have to. We have a thing called the Dutch/American Friendship treaty. It allows you with the right finances to start your own business and get a permit to stay. It has to be renewed every year for 5 years then you get a permanant one with no more reporting obligations. Although almost everyone there does speak english, you will find it much easier to assimilate if you can speak the language. I think total immersion is what it will take for me. I got the Rosetta Stone Dutch language CDs to start with. I watch Dutch TV and listen to Dutch radio. Eventually it clicked for me and started making sense. I don't think it will take long once I am choiceless. lol
