Cell Phones in Amsterdam

Post by ACDlurker »

I'll just go ahead and ask this question here. I'm from the states and my phone is not a global phone. I wanted to make some TnT's but will probably not have my laptop to check times and see if anyone can make it. So I wanted to know if there is somewhere to purchase a go phone or pre paid phone, anyone have any ideas? I know a few coffeeshops have internet terminals but it takes me forever to navigate the Dam to find shops, going to be printing off the ACD map though.

Thanks Guys/Gals!

You can walk into any of the phone shops on the Kalverstraat and buy a prepaid phone for about 20 euro. If you have a laptop or wi-fi device, here is a comprehensive hotspot list. http://www.wifi-amsterdam.nl/free_wifi_internet.html

I just picked up a spare for 25euros, including a SIM. However, 25 will NOT get you a phone with internet.

Sorry guys,... I didn't search before writting this,.... I have now found some info here .... https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewt ... id&start=0

I think i will ask there if i need further info.

So sorry for being a typical noob,.... sincere apologies.

I'll post this here 1st as it is very much related, if I do not get a response then I may start a new thread.

I have a GSM phone,... can I take it with me and just pop in a pre-paid sim when I get there?

The one I have seen is this one ..... http://tinyurl.com/T-MobilePrepaidSimOnly

...... but I cant seem to find the terms and conditions about how to get the free 15eu credit and how long will it take to be credited to my account etc.....

Anyone with any information about this?

Also,.... Will I be able to get if for the same price (10eu) from the store, instead of ordering online?

Thanks guys.

@Wileykat, If your phone is simlock free, you can use any Dutch sim card. You can buy T-mobile prepaid card at any phoneshop for the same price (or less) no need to order online. About the free 15,- euro credit, most likely there is already 5,-euro credit on your sim card.On their website they say you can join their reward program, once you have registered you will receive 180 points (good for 10,- euro credit). After 24 hours these points are exchangeable into credits, gifts etc.

Aha..... Thanks for that. That was just the kind of information I needed.

I don't want to spend money to top it up myself, nor do I want to wait 24 hours before being able to get the free credit. ..... ARGHHHHH!

The other option I have read about is Vodafone, the website states a free 5eu top up when register online,... but again, will I have to wait 24 hours? Do I get any free prior to registering?
This does sound good as I can buy these "BLOX" as well.

What do you guys think?....
