My first coffeeshop crawl plan

Post by Dave J »

Inspired by stuart1976 and his crawls he does I've decided to do my own that I plan to do on my first evening. Not bothered by doing a short crawl as such but this is a quick draft of what I hope to do on my first evening. May do a quick smoke stop part way through but the intention is just to buy & fly and make it to NES by 9pm. I know I pass others of cause but it's the way I want to do it.

Hope you can follow my quick effort of a map (gonna do a better 1 to print closer to the time). Out of the Bulldog hotel the first stop:

1-Green Place (never visited)
2-Hill Street Blues O.T.M.
3-Voyagers (never visited)
4-Hunters (possable smoke stop break)
5-Babylon (never visited)
6-420 (never visited)
7-Anyday (never visited)
8-Grey Area (if closed will do Amnesia instead)

Hope to be back at hotel by 8pm for a quick rest before heading off to NES :)

When will this event be taking place? FbN will surely want dates to put on his page!

And is the crawl open for discussion or is it set in stone?

I'll be doing it on the evening of the 18th. If flight is on time I think I can be at the hotel by 5pm, out of there by 5.30pm. Possably a quick beer in Ricks at 5.35pm before starting at 6pm. Even with a possable (30 mins) smoke break in Hunters should still make Grey Area by 7.45pm or before closing.

Nothing set in stone as such yet just something I want to do to build up a supply. I'm already looking taking an early morning stroll down to De Pijp (getting there about 10am) and doing something similar on the 19th morning before any t&t's for that day (getting back in Centrum by mid day ish. But dont want to get carried away with myself :)

By the time you get to nes you should have a nice little stash built up dude. that crawl looks very doable in a couple hours too especially with Fly & Buy's

I'll be stopping at the Bulldog Hotel, cheapest option for me as I know the place well and feel safe there. Plus it leaves more money for smokables. Cant wait to light up my old Dreamcast console from an ebay sale, or have a spliff of Super Mario to or even a hard back edition of some old Doctor Who books seems possable to smoke on the first night  .

Not Rulling out doing that crawl in reverse to ensure I get to Grey Area and finish off at Green Place as it would be an easier end to the crawl for the last 4 on my map if It were done in reverse.

Funny enough, was thinking only earlyer today about adding Kadinsky to my planed crawl. I am giving thought to crossing Voyagers off for the first night as thats pretty much the only 1 in that area (unless I add Central and cut another off). Could do as shown in that map and start at Voyagers, but unsure if it's worth it as it is a bit of a walk to the starting point compared to where I'm staying?. Dont get me wrong I'll be doing Voyagers, just unsure of getting it done on the first night.

Right, tried 3 different routes and after quite a bit of working out this is the final route I've chosen for my crawl. I've actually listed 9 coffeeshops, only looking at doing 8. But have listed a 9th in case any of them is a tad to busy to que up (excluding Gray Area of cause :) ) to get served. Then it's just a case of moving onto the next. To me it was either do 7 if they are busy and I'm running late or add a 9th to cut out a busy 1 and still try to get 8 done between 6-8pm. Also decided to pretty much do the crawl in reverse just to make sure I get to Grey Area before it closes.

The plan, if things go to plan is:
S-Ricks leaving 6pm after a quick beer
1-Kandinski
2-Grey Area
3-Anyday
4-420 Cafe
5-Babylon
6-Hill Street Blues
7-Hunters
8-Voyagers
9-Green Place

If I've calculated correctly then that route is just about a 2 mile to walk.

I used a screen grabbing program called "Screen Grab Pro". It's a pain in the arse that google maps wont let you save sections of map as an image to print.

By the way if you want to do your own map after that with google maps goto the red new tab on the top right of the screen (on the google maps site) and click on the "Distance Measurement Tool" activate setting. Then save and click on the little ruler on the bottom left of the screen and start to mark your own route :)

@ Dave J.. considering that I have an errand on "Susie's saloon" when I come to amsterdam and that you have 3 of the 10 candidates for this year's "Hestia"price, on your coffee shop crawl .. wondering if me and 2 mates maybe might participate in your crawl :?: :)
