Hello everyone
I am an old hippie who discovered Amsterdam in the early 80s and have been visiting twice a year ever since to enjoy the coffeeshops and strolling around the city.
In the 60s I grew up in the US and smoking pot is my only vice (I don't drink or smoke tobacco or do anything else).
The pot in Holland is fantastic. I love the first coffeeshop visit after arriving and all the wonderful smells.
I have long ago visited every possible tourist attraction in and around Amsterdam and Rotterdam, but every time I go I revisit my favorite attractions and museums.
I have visited hundreds of coffeeshops during the years, and my two favorites are the Grasshopper and Homegrown Fantasy.
I am hoping to keep tabs on the current developments regarding the attempts to close the coffeeshops or limit them to locals.
I dearly hope that it never comes to pass, but as we all know, things change.
I have even considered retiring to a little houseboat on the canals of Amsterdam eventually, and grow my own little plants. I hope that Holland will not ban coffeeshops or growing your own and think that they have established such a tradition that it would be hard to do.
Right now some countries are going through a right-wing tilt because of political and economic issues, but that too shall pass.
I tend to think that the consequences of closing the coffeeshops would be a serious economic blow to the Dutch economy and that may be the saving grace for this issue.
I'm headed back to Amsterdam in May, so I hope that things remain the same until then.

Re: Hello everyone
Thanks everyone.
I will be there for 4 nights at the start of May.
I was last there during the Cannabis Cup in late November. It was actually the first time that one of my visits had coincided with the event.

Re: Hello everyone
I'm planning for May 4-8. I can take the train from the UK, so I'm flexible. I can buy a ticket at the last moment, and I have friends to stay with.FlyByNite wrote:Is that May 1 - 5?Surfer Joe wrote:I will be there for 4 nights at the start of May.
