Shops for the nonsmoking s.o.

Post by krustykola »

Hello to all, have enjoyed and learned much from the site and forum. Will be in Amsterdam soon and would like some suggestions for shops that would appeal to the non-smoker or better put the non-indulger. I would like to visit some shops with my wife who does not partake and am looking for those shops that would be more suited for her. I would guess a place with other items for sale such as drinks/food and places with room to hang out. So I guess if that spells "tourist" places so be it. I will probably be fine not finding the strongest smoke around but don't want to waste time on junk either.

Hello and welcome!

La Tertulia might be nice. Female operators, I believe, and a nice location on Prinsengracht near the Nine Streets. If it's nice out, the terrace is pleasant.

Abraxas has web access and lots to look at.

Enjoy your visit.

Quirky little shop with three floors of "stuff" to peruse.

yo-yo has a similar feel to la tertulia and is also female-run and i would recommend both places

yo-yo is in de pijp area, so a visit to the coffeeshop can be combined with a visit to the albert cuypmarkt which has a fascinating mix of stalls with just about everything for sale

yo-yo is spacious with high ceilings so it doesn't get too smokey ... it is also a gallery so there is art on the walls to view ... the apple tart is one of the best, imho, in amsterdam and is worth a try ... the weed is mostly outdoor so there is a wide choice for you to sample ... if the weather is nice, you can sit outside where there are a few tables ... there is an infant school across the street so it is a quite pleasant area

i also hope you enjoy your visit

Bluebird, near Waterlooplein, might also be an option. If you can grab that window spot at the right time, it's a sweet street viewing seat.

My better half is a non-indulger! She loves homegrown fantasy, for the laid back chilled atmosphere, and she says the hot chocolate is the best she's ever had!

I'd recommend:-

420 cafe - nice drinks, cakes and weed/hash, nice atmosphere, very central.. Say hi to Max the cat for me ;-)
Amnesia - Trendily outfitted, nice quality cakes / drinks, younger crowd normally, fairly central (Herengracht)
1e Hulp - Has a separate smoking room, nice drinks and cheap pipes / grinders, good weed / hash deals! (Marnixstraat, just up from the Westerkerk)
Rookies - Nice drinks / snacks, separate smoking room (Leidesplein area)

Lots of great ideas and I have been checking them all out. Wife's further input is that she is looking for a table where we can hang out and chill etc.
We will be close to the central station but as we are going to check out the city all suggestions are welcome.

So many interesting places to visit... and that's the just the cs's !

Green Place is not on Harlemerstraat, i thinks its The Greenhouse Lounge you are talking about.

Try and get out to Paradox, they serve some nice snacks like Veggie Burgers, etc. really chilled and relaxed, and if the other half gets 2 bored you can always send her off to Anne Franks house which is just around the corner :-)
Some other nice shops are YoYo in De Pijp, is a nice chilled out shop as are Sanemantereeing and Borejongens.

Have a good trip :-)
