Bud & Alcohol

Post by tdw121270 »

Just a tip to all those people going to amsterdam for the first time. I wouldn't reccomend mixing alcohol with bud. The bud in holland is strong shit and if you mix it with alcohol your more than likely whitey/blackout. The reason being cannabis lowers your sugar levels and alcohol (especially european beer) can unbalance you even more. Anyway why ruin a good high with alcohol. Someone asked me once what's the difference between someone who's been toking for years and a newbie. My theory is that a pro smoker knows how to pace himself and can tell when it's time to stop. Also don't go for the strongest bud on the menu if your not used to toking. Ask for the weakest and after a day or two try something a bit stronger. I can guarantee you if you go straight for the strongest indica you'll be glued to your seat for bloody ages .You'll still need to get up to buy drinks/go to the toilet/dodge those lovely drug pushers when you leave to go to another coffeeshop. So play safe, enjoy yourself and respect the weed.

Wise words and good advice. I certainly wouldn't advise drinking and smoking together if you are not used to it. I would also advise sticking to the low strengths at first if it's been a while.

Theres nothing better as far as I'm concerned as drinking a Amstel with a spliff in 420 or a Neuberg (sp?) with a spliff in t'Nes.

I must admit to being a mixer and I have just about lived to tell the tale. The effects are long lasting to say the least. Dutch beer on it's own will get you smashed more quickly than the same amount down the local, especially if you do the tourist thing and go for the ones you haven't really heard of before.

personally, I've always heard that you can't/shouldn't mix drinking with smoking... there was always a myth about if you smoke first then drank you'de be ok... or vice-versa :?

I'm not convince by rumour... I have to see it to believe it... I have now smoked and drunk... both beer and spirits... all three actually... what a trip. I was stoned first and then became pissed - "poned"

I now say; be very careful in Amsterdam especially as the weed is strong... but, know "your" limits... go slow and easy... try it. Is good 8)

My trip to Amsterdam at the end of March was mostly smoking during the day, then a quick freshen up then drinking at night.

From my personal experience, it doesn't matter what way around you do it as the effects of both will come together at some point and you better brace yourself for the impact.

Mine would most definitely be sudden.

A previously untold story

There is a small bar in Damstraat (across from Sensi Shop) which is run by this middle aged Dutch woman (I say this because she is the only one I have ever seen working there and this includes the trip before my last one (August 2004)

Anyway, back to March 2006, and evening time had fallen on Amsterdam and I was spruced up after a smoking "session" during the day and was ready to wet the whistle.

And so to aforementioned pub I did go and sat on the rather uncompromising stools right at the bar. There was myself, the woman and a local older gent in the bar at the time and those two were chatting away as I minded my own business happily sipping away at pints of Amstel.

I soon decided to move away from the stools and the conversation to the tables and chairs arranged behind me, still sipping away and full of the joys of spring.

Next thing I know, the bar is a lot busier and a distant shouting noise suddenly becomes louder.

The woman is screaming at one of the locals to "escort" me from the premises which he duly does with a "friendly" shove out of the door with the words "You're fucking barred" in Dutch/English accent ringing in my ears from the makeshift bouncer.

A cautionary tale.

I like a cold brew after smoking a bag, helps with the cottonmouth. :D Like to take my time, enjoy the buzz and then the taste of the beer. Stayed with O.J. mainly on the last trip, was fighting a cold. But the variety of beers on draft is excellent, just like the weed. AzLaker 8)

It was excellent in so much as I was as fresh as a daisy after my enforced exit. I have no idea how long I was out for but I would say that quite some time must have elapsed.

Happy days

Unless you are experienced in the fine art of mixing beer and bud then my advice is don't do it.
