Not long till I hit the 'Dam!

Post by Vron »

Hey all!

Counting down the days until I leave now! I haven't been for a few years, and I am sick of smoking the overpriced crap that I get in the UK. Nothing beats your first Amsterdam smoke! :D

This will be my second trip, this time with friends (went solo last time), and I cannot wait! We're staying at one of the Amsterdam Cribs apartments in the RLD. I seem to remember from last time that most of the coffeeshops in the Centrum are pretty touristy and loud, so looking to venturing a bit further this time.

I'm only there for 4 days but hoping to visit the following:

- Amnesia
- Green Place
- Grey Area (just for the gear)
- Basjoes
- Katsu
- Paradox
- Happy Feelings
- Mellow Yellow

I prefer the quieter chilled places with decent tunes, more suggestions are welcome! I also don't smoke blunts, so trying to work out which are the best places for mixing with tobacco!

Going with some guys who don't smoke very often, so what does everyone think would be the best 'intro' smoke, I mean - nothing too strong so it knocks them out for the day!

Having lurked in these forums for a while now, I've been overwhelmed by all the really helpful and nice folk on here, and have enjoyed reading the travelogues etc! Cheers to you all, and heres to (hopefully!) a great trip!

welcome to the forum

i just want to double-check that you and all of your friends have read the document How not to get hit by a bike from the excellent S G Collins website recommended by FlyByNite

if you have already read the document, then thanks, but if not, then please please read before you arrive to ensure your safety in the crazy amsterdam traffic, and thanks

Cheers for the tip, I read this the other week, some good advice there! I will refer my mates to it, I fear they may be rather taken aback by the cheer amount of cyclists! Bikes are such an iconic part of the Dam! My strongest memory of the place (aside from the wonderful smoke) was that crazy multi storey bike park to the side of the station! Mental! How would you ever manage to locate your bike again, especially after a good session?!

I gather that a lot of coffeeshops turn a blind eye to tobacco smoking, amd having searched threads here it seems that it shouldn't be a problem. Just wondered if anywhere on my list is an absoulte no go when it comes to baccy?

Also, does any one reckon Haarlem is worth a day trip? Weighing up whether to make the most of my time in Amsterdam, or whether to venture to another area for a day...

Amnesia may be the only place that may be a problem.

I always try to take a day trip when I visit A'dam. Haarlem will not dissapoint, there are a few quality shops.

Peace,
