1st day after jetting over from US
1st day after jetting over from US
I'm wondering just what would be typical for a 1st day experience after jetting over-night and arriving at 8:00am. I'm thinking drop the bags at the hotel and then an early lunch and then crash for a few hours before evening.
Does that sound about right? Any tips to make this an easier transition?

There must have been a door there in the wall when I came in.

Stay awake until it's time to go to bed locally.
DO NOT take a nap for a few hours. If you must rest, nap for about 30 minutes, no more.
When you arrive, drop your bags and have some coffee or hi-test soda that will keep you going if needed. Keep with the caffeine as needed.
Enjoy your visit.

I find the key is getting yourself into Amsterdam time before you board the plane. Set your watch/phone and mindset ahead to Amsterdam time. On the plane, try to sleep, even if you pretend. Get some sleep on the plane. Get your stuff put away when you get in and get a shower if possible. If it's too early to get in my home, I at least change my cloths and freshen up in the hotel's bathroom. Then go about your day and try to stay up as late as possible.thompaw wrote:I'm wondering just what would be typical for a 1st day experience after jetting over-night and arriving at 8:00am.
I would advise against crashing a few hours, unless it's on the plane on the way over.thompaw wrote: I'm thinking drop the bags at the hotel and then an early lunch and then crash for a few hours before evening.
This is the only way I've found to beat the jetlag

Make sure you can check into your hotel that early. Some places won't let you in till after 12 noon. If you find that has happened, leave your bags in central station and go eat and maybe have a spliff to get you in the mood (if you aren't jet lagged to bits)

Having made the hop across the pond more than a few times, this is what works for me.
Traveling EAST - I find this to be the most difficult because my body clock is 6 hours behind Amsterdam. Ex., if it's 1am Amsterdam time, most locals are ready to go to bed. My body is telling me ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circadian_rhythm ) that it's 7pm, not time for bed. Here's what I do...
- rest comfortably on the plane, as much as I can in economy.
- stay hydrated (very important, regardless)
- don't consume any caffeinated products after 6pm.
- eat a full dinner meal.
- don't smoke any serious Indica until ready for bed.
Traveling WEST - I find traveling in this direction to be easier. Once I arrive at my destination, I stay awake until it's time to go to bed, say around 11pm.
- rest during the flight, always good.
- stay hydrated, also always good.
- eat a full dinner meal.
- consume caffeinated products when feeling sleepy, mostly for the late afternoon, early evening.
- exercise, better yet, sexercise.

Happy travels...

It's okay to take a nap as long as its short (45m-1.5h) before 20:00. But only if you're positive that your alarm will wake you!!
Nothing worse than falling asleep for six hours and wake up to it being 11:30pm...
met vriendelijke groet..

P.S. Heading East takes much more of a toll on me than heading West...

i would try not to sleep, and buy something really strong miles from hotel. Yes your gonna get hammered (your in amsterdam). as you make your way back you will pass a coffeeshop or 2 that will be on your coffeeshops to visit list and repeat this till you get back to your bed.. ive found having a little nap for me doesnt work as ill sleep way too long and never hear the alarm clock

you can most likely leave your bags at the hotel no need to leave them at centraal stationRonSwanson wrote:Make sure you can check into your hotel that early.
