In our very recent and well needed election here in Ireland, a man named Luke "Ming" Flanagan was elected to represent County Roscommon. About ten years ago he was trying to get a foot in the door of politics, his main campaign was to legalize our favourite plant. He started this process by sending hundreds of joints to standing politicians (smokers are so dangerous)
Now an elected member of the Dail (Parliment) the police are looking to bust him for admitting he grows and smokes pot. Mind you this is after many of our past politicians have admitted smoking it. Too look at this guy, he doesn't scream "politician" in his image. Baggy jeans long hair and a huge beard suit this guy.
It reminds me of a Marvin Gaye lyric "Who are they to judge us, simply cause our hair is long"
He has said he will not grow his own pot anymore, which I see as a bit of a concession, as he was our ONLY politician talking about legalizing weed, and because of legal pressure he has dropped his main campaign.
Fair enough he is "fighting the power" by working on bogs that have taken over by the EU regardless of whether it's your land or not. We need people like him in government, and sticking to their guns.

Yes indeed Ming is an absolute hero, He had no choice but to say "I'm quitting cannabis while it's still illegal in Ireland"....that's only because he wanted the media spotlight off himself and his family...even though we all know nothing will stop him form enjoying his herb , he seems to be one of the few honest men involved in our struggle against the big 'players' in politics..

It's just a pity that aspect of his activism has to suffer to get somewhere. Brian Cowen was rightly crucified for his drunk interview on Morning Ireland. And the excuse was "ah sure there's always a session at these things."
I think Ireland will never see the day drugs will ever be anything but demonized. Look at what happened when smart shops popped up everywhere. Treated like they were selling child porn. Even though they had logic in their debate..
