Questions from a first time noob

Forgive my slight noobness, but I decided to try a "proper" joint while holidaying in Amsterdam the other day and I've got a few questions regarding the experience.

My only experience before was a tiny little thing that I tried at Uni about three or four years ago. I'm not a smoker, I don't smoke cigarettes and whatever I smoked made me light-headed, made my legs turn to jelly and then I fell asleep. This time was similar, but slightly different.

I bought a White Melon, pre-rolled from Mellow Yellow after a number of failed attempts to roll my own having never rolled before. I managed to smoke about 2/3rds of it before I felt as though I'd had "enough". I felt the light-headedness quite strongly and I was shaking like I was cold, but I wasn't cold. The whole shaking and light-headedness passed and then I felt normal again. I thought "Oh well, that's it", but I decided to relight it and take a few more drags for good measure, but it didn't really do anything else.

When I got back to my hotel room, even though I felt totally normal, I spent about 10 minutes going through my repertoire of impressions, then I giggled at nothing for a few short minutes, then I went deadly silent and didn't want to say anything at all and for a while was quite content staring at the wall in a bit of a daydream about nothing.

Now my questions:

1. Is it normal for the light-headedness to go away so quickly?
2. Is it to normal go through short stages of acting differently, like giggling one minute, then totally spaced out the next?
3. Was the tobacco that was probably in my pre-rolled joint the problem? Would I react differently if I'd have bought something with no tobacco in it?
4. Could I have smoked too much/too quickly/too little?
5. How strong is White Melon? There's practically nothing on the internet about it other than people recommending it, which is why I gave it a go.
6. A lot of people seemed to mention about colours becoming more vibrant, sounds more pronounced etc. when stoned. I didn't get any of that as far as I'm aware. Maybe a different type of weed to what I smoked would cause that?

Hope to read your replies soon,
yerblues

A mixed joint depends on percentages of weed and tobacco.

Just buy some weed and have the budtender or a friendly customer roll you a joint.
That way you know what is in it.

Or buy a cheap pipe.

Enjoy

you will get what is called a 'nicotine rush'

from the tobacco, doesnt have to be much tobacco but if you arent used to smoking it you will get one, this causes you to feel light-headed, maybe as if your head is growing abit?

You were high mate, just sit back and enjoy the ride

All of the things that you described are normal, took me back to my first smoke.  :?

Best to build up a bit of tollerance, then have a play with a few strains.

as Dava says if your not used to tobacco you end up getting a baccy rush (light head, faster heart beat) but the giggles, looking at the wallpaper, blankness thats all the weed.

Enjoy your quest.

So the initial "drunk" feeling where everything feels different is caused by the tobacco, not the weed? It was pretty powerful and not at all unpleasant :D

So I can be cheeky and ask the budtender to roll it for me? Hmmm...

no that would have been the weed, but the light-headed feeling could well have been 'niccy rush', but the weed would overpower that after a short while.

you can probably get anyone sat down in the coffeeshop to roll up for you if you ask politely enough!

if you had the joint all ready to roll and just asked anyone near by i doubt they would say NO..if you had a gagging coughing fit i would say that would be tobacco. do a pure one next time you get much better results

I didn't, but I think you're right, a pure one next time would probably be better, especially as far as taste goes, not that what I had was disgusting.

Yeah, see that's what confused me. The feeling of needing to sit down didn't really last long enough even though I'd smoked 2/3rds of it by that point and was getting the shakes so decided to put it out. And after that, it just passed so quickly. :?

in order to answer your quesitons, its important to know what impressions you performed

one thing to remember, and this is what most first timers do, is not to over analyse what your feeling. sitting there going "nothing, nothing..... is that it..... no, ..... oh wait..." will creatre quite a different high from high which is allowed to come in naturally.

i know is impossble to not think about thinking about something. so the best thing to do is do it with friends, as your conversations allow you distractions from your own internal thoughts and the high builds naturally.

yeah- what chelsea said is true. It took me a while of smoking weed and 'getting to grips' with it before i knew what to expect, how best to enjoy and bring out the high. Alcohol for example is quite a bit different in this respect. any bad experiences or whitey i've had whilst high on weed has been far milder than that experienced after drinking too much, hangover etc.
not surprised you got shaking/lightheadedness if you're not used to tobacco. prerolls can be a bit heavy on the baccy.

A tobacco cigarette high as you explain will fade VERY quickly, if you were a smoker probably within 20 cigarettes. I agree the initial 'high' you felt sounds a lot like the feeling a non-tobacco smoker will get.

I would suggest you buy a small pipe, or borrow one from the Coffeeshop and try one hitters.

All part of the learning (and enjoying) experience - shivers might have been down to lower blood sugar level , always good to have some chocolate etc to hand.

Admit it - the pleasure is worth the odd feeling at first ?

LOL...Started off with a bit of Marx Brothers ("Hey wait a minute, there is no sanity clause!"), then started describing everything I did in a 1930s documentary style and finally sat watching the Discovery Channel repeating what they said and changing odd words to make it sound funny. All seems a bit nuts now!
