I will be in Amsterdam from May 17 - 26. This is my first time visiting the city.
May 16 - Non-stop red-eye from BOS-AMS.
May 17 - Arrive at Schiphol at 6AM on May 17. Catch train to Central station then bee-line it to Central Coffeeshop (opens at 7AM). Walk to apartment on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and get situated.
May 17-19 spent exploring amsterdam by bike and on foot. No set plans for these dates other than getting to Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, a few other museums and as many of the coffeeshops and beer cafes on my list as possible.
May 20 hop on train early in morning and head to Bruge. Spend night in Bruge. Spend May 21 in Bruge and head back to Amsterdam via train on evening of May 21.
May 22-23: More Amsterdam fun!
May 24: AM train to Wolfsburg, Germany to visit the Autostadt (VW plant and facilities). My buddy wants to do this trip and has already booked us VW tour and safety training course. Train back to Amsterdam in evening.
May 25: One more full day in the Dam!
May 26: Breakfast, one more coffeeshop, then head to Schiphol for flight home.
Will probably visit Haarlem at least once during my trip as well.
Thoughts? Too much? Too little? Just right?

Re: Itinerary for first trip to the Dam...How does it look?
Sounds like a plan ---one thing though ,you did ask- Since Coffeeshops are part of your plans -Why not a Dutch city instead of Bruges ? See the CS scene in pure local form ...maybe Zutphen (three CSes). Not as big as Bruges ,definitely won't be as many yanks there ,if any, but a great town to visit for that I'm 4000 miles from home feel. Market Day Saturday -Take out the cars you have a medieval movie set.
The Eden Hotel can be booked from this site ,usually for a great rate ...(Mata Haris smoking balcony thru the yellow door)...Pix in siglink .
enjoy your trip.

Re: Itinerary for first trip to the Dam...How does it look?
That looks pretty cool Epsilon. However, I have always wanted to visit Belgium and partake in their local culture and beer scene. I may need a day or two to clear my head after toking for 4 days straight. I've bookmarked that info about Zutphen.
Thanks again
