my first technical visit to holland was as a 10 year old with my parents at a caravan site, they were visiting their old stomping grounds, and i remember the weather was immensly hot.

The thing i remember is whilst playing at a basketball net, at the campsite, a dutch kid came up to me and said 'can i play?' its incredible but i remember that even at ten i was shocked. I had a perfectly happy upbringing, but i am clearly a result of an english middle class upbringing, and i never dreamt of just approaching strangers and playing. That kid and i did play, and we had a bloody good play too.

18 years later and for some reason i still remember that incident, and i think is still a lesson that is applicable today. Being nice to people straight off, really pays well. A nod and a smile when u walk past someone makes you both feel good.

Of course theres nice people everywhere, its just this
happened in holland which fits nicely
