Re: Siberie
I was gonna check this place out but after reading the house rules, I think I'll give it a miss. A bit over the top in my opinion, check it out...............
THE HOUSE RULES are written to provide everyone with a clear understanding of and to prevent misunderstandings that may occur by explaining you the conduct of business within the boundaries of the Dutch law. Rules are being maintained carefully and strictly to ensure each guest a pleasant stay.
Entrance exclusively for persons of 18 years and older, even not for minors accompanied by an adult.
ID is obligatory for everyone; and should be showed upon our request (as of 01.01.2005 is each citizen of 14 years and older obliged by law to carry a valid ID at all times).
Only the following ID is accepted: passport, identity card & driver's license. So: not expired, no copies, no elderly cards, no student cards.
When we encounter a fake ID, police is informed immediately; you will not be welcome in our coffeeshop ever again.
We like to get a clear view at your face when you show us your ID (please take off your helmet, cap, sun glasses, etc).
Possession, use and dealing hard drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited: we will call the police immediately when we identify or suspect such activities, you are not welcome ever again.
The law allows us buy 5 grams per person per day maximum. You are not allowed to carry more than 5 grams whilst in our coffee shop. We do not tolerate selling, not in the coffee shop and not in the neighbourhood of the coffee shop. We will take the same action as mentioned in 6.
The Dutch law on tobacco prohibits smoking tobacco in the coffeeshop. Therefore we cannot allow anyone to smoke tobacco products inside.
Selling our products to minors will never be tolerated.
Possession of weapons, whatever kind, is prohibited.
Aggression will never be tolerated.
Discrimination will never be tolerated.
It is not allowed to spend more than 2,5 hours in our coffeeshop. The manager on duty may reduce that period to his or her insight.
We have the right to refuse customers entrance to the building, terrace and parcel at any point.
Consumptions have to be paid for immediately; a consumption is compulsory; you are not allowed to bring your own.
It is forbidden to use your mobile phone.
Dogs are not allowed inside.
Those who do not park their vehicle in a proper manner will not be served.
We are frequently (24/7) checking up on disturbance and hindrance in the shop and neighbourhood, such as making noise and leaving trash. At identification we will report the crime to the police................................
What a joke!!!!! Never seen anything like it in any other coffeeshop!!!!

Re: Siberie
I thought most of these were pretty much standard rules for coffeeshops apart from the mobile phone thing and the one about staying 2.5 hours.erbgrinder89 wrote:I was gonna check this place out but after reading the house rules, I think I'll give it a miss. Re: Siberie
Yea, I should have been a bit clearer. It's just the 2.5 hours, no mobile phone, no bringing your own stuff and not parking your vehicle correctly rules that kind of put me off. Most coffeeshops don't list there rules or add petty rules like this, I think everybody knows how to behave in a coffeeshop or any bar or any establishment like these. Weed may be nice, staff may be friendly but I know there are more laid back places with better weed, who will actually let you just buy a drink and smoke your own stuff. I think Russians own this place and from my experiences, I really don't like them. I think there attitude comes across when you read the rules, bit strict, bit pushy. Will pass on this place

Re: Siberie
Have to say that Siberie has always been one of the most chilled out, unpretentious and generally pleasant coffeeshops in the centrum, and in more than a decade of occasional visits I have never once seen anyone get hassled about rules, not even close. I think they are just there in case they have problem customers who are disturbing others and spoiling the atmosphere.erbgrinder89 wrote:Yea, I should have been a bit clearer. In my experience Siberie has decent weed at very reasonable prices for the location, good drinks, and really genuine & nice staff. It is much closer to the best CS's in the city than it is to the worst
Re: Siberie
This is probably tied with La Tertulia and Paradox for the most chilled-out, relaxed coffeeshop in all Amsterdam. I've been here many times and I don't recall ever buying any of their herb; I usually just get a drink or two and chill out for as long as I want while take a smoke from the stash I've already accumulated. The employees have always been as friendly as can be. Most, if not all, of these rules are standard for all cs's. If you've got a problem with Siberie, you will have a problem with all the coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Just go in and give it a try.erbgrinder89 wrote:I was gonna check this place out but after reading the house rules, I think I'll give it a miss. Re: Siberie
Those are definitely standard coffee-shop policies (even if they don't always take the form of printed "rules"). I appreciate their attempt to be explicit.
In my experience Siberie is a friendly, chilled out shop.
Understand that an Amsterdam coffeeshop serves an endless stream of people from all over the world, from places with various customs, who have varying levels of experience and tolerance. Printing the rules so that people can familiarize themselves in advance seems like one way to keep things running smoothly.

Because life is too short to smoke bad bud.
Re: Siberie
I agree. Many shops have similar rules posted, perhaps not quite as explicit as Siberie. For example, Utopia has a similar set of rules posted at the entrance likewise at Voyagers, even though presented in a more humorous manner.geekymonkey wrote:Those are definitely standard coffee-shop policies (even if they don't always take the form of printed "rules"). @erbgrinder89: I'm not sure why you are put off by these rules being stated. I don't see how they infringe upon your enjoyment. I mean, are you planning to bring in a gun and a beer and then whip out your cell phone and call all your friends to tell them how you just parked your car across the front of the shop while taking selfies and posting them on Facebook?
Relax, my friend... the shop is very gezellig... you should go in with a friend and have a toke and a tea!

Re: Siberie

Re: Siberie
Do you mean de Supermarkt? I bought some hash there once, but didn't stay, which meant I didn't get a picture of the black cat. Is it still there? If so, I may go back and try to get one, as I've always thought that Siberië was close to the Platonic ideal of a coffeeshop, apart from the lack of felinity.
Re: Siberie
Siberie , Loft , De Republiek,De Supermarkt ,
1 little group , Loft & Siberie are very chilled shops , Loft especially(the few times I've been there anyway) , i'm going to try and complete the visits later this year .

Re: Siberie
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post, I've been in many coffeeshops in Amsterdam and I guess I have never seen the rules listed like this so I was a bit put off. I will give it a try, thanks again
Re: Siberie
Isn't Siberie the sister shop, or second shop, of Rusland? Rusland is older and also extremely chilled-out. It struck me as more of a locals place than Siberie, with those long, cafeteria-style tables in the basement. Rusland has a good selection of tea and is right around the corner from Basjoes. It's a nice place to relax and have a smoke before taking a walk through some of my favorite straats in the beautiful residential neighborhoods further East-Southeast. Some of the small canals and architecture in this area rival and sometimes exceed the beauty of the Jordaan, with locals and old-timers...and an occasional pot plant on the side streets in this beautiful area. If you want peace and tranquility, walk to Klomboomssteeg and follow this charming street all the way down until it intersects with a larger canal, and you'll find a few benches at that intersection. Heaven!!elasticband wrote:I live very near their srcond shop.... hit more of a locals place but the staff are great and the weed is well priced..... no complaints herealthough I have never actually been to siberie only their other shop

Re: Siberie
As far as I know Rusland has no connections with Siberie. Totally different menu, staff and all that. Maybe I'm wrong though...
I wanted to report about this interesting Sativa... Mexican Haze x AK47 for only 8,5e/g. But sadly it was all gone already when I checked on Wednesday evening... "we only had about 1,5 k's...". It was also Siberie exclusive, so I couldn't find it at the Loft and the Supermarkt. Well at least I got to try a bit and it was great weed for this cheap price. Hopefully we will see it return one day.
There are some other goodies on the menu though. The California Orange Bud was one of my all time favs. I also liked their Silver Haze and the Super Polm.
At Siberie you can get great value for your money.

Re: Siberie
Siberië was founded by someone who'd had a share in Rusland and had fallen out with his partner. The joke was, where do they send you in Russia when you don't behave? Siberia!
Rusland was getting yet another complete makeover the last time I was there. It holds a place in my heart, but it's got much more commercialised lately, and I didn't particularly like the last Afghan I bought from there.
