I smoke single hitters from Bongs but I like rolling too...
When you smoke a joint aren't you essentially vaporizing the cannabis directly behind the cherry before it even burns? What you are tasting when you smoke a joint must be a mix of vapor and smoke.
I know that it doesn't destroy everything due to the fact that smoking old halfjoints have gotten me through shortages, but I also know the theory of vaporizing and this logic tells me that cherry is hot enough to vape at least a cm or two....
Question is, how far down the joint does the air stay hot enough to vape the cannabis? I'm wondering if half of the leftover joint should be cut off and discarded... Please advise.

Vaporizing Joints...
Re: Vaporizing Joints...
Its true, I've heard about this before. When you're smoking a joint, essentially what you're getting is a mix of smoke (burned plant material) and vapor. The cannabanoids in the cherry are destroyed by the high temperature... its the cannabanoids on the edge of the cherry which are in the right temperature range, causing the essential oils to change from solid to gas.
Have a listen to BB's Bungalow episode 43 and 44 (its one of the Dopecast podcasts). The last 2 episodes have a section called 'Vape 101' with an Australian guy talking about this topic.

Re: Vaporizing Joints...
Using this line of thought, wouldn't smoking a joint be a huge waste of weed? IMO, joints are the least effective way of ingesting CBD/CBN/etc... into the system. So much goes up in smoke... This same principle can be applied when using a pipe/bowl, although the waste is significantly lower when compared to joints.
Meh, it's a bloody weed for fuxs sake and not a 100 year old Scotch.
Happy ingesting whichever way one chooses...

Re: Vaporizing Joints...
Yes indeed, experts agree that a joint is the #1 most inefficient way to consume cannabis. While that might be true, I also believe that enjoyment is much more important than efficiency!Uncle Ron wrote:Using this line of thought, wouldn't smoking a joint be a huge waste of weed? I don't remember the exact numbers, but only around 15% of the active ingredients are transferred to your body via smoking. Vaporizing was up around 40%. Ingesting was like 70 or 80%.
Proof for myself: I'm always seeing BIG joints rolled (1-2 grams of top shelf weed and hash), and smoked up by 2 or 3 people without too much trouble. In 10 minutes, everything is gone, and yet people are not that stoned. But if you take the same amount of weed and use a bong instead, they might have trouble getting through it! In a good vaporizer, 2 grams can go for hours, and will get 2-3 people VERY wasted.

Along those lines, I always make sure that the last
fifth or sixth of the joint at the roach end is pure tobacco.
Basically by the time you get down to the bit where it just tastes
of baccy, there's no point smoking any further, and there's
nothing worse than smoking roach.
Probably makes sense not to have gear at the first bit of the
joint too.

WOW! I never knew this but it makes so much sense! So, front-loading a baccy-mix joint is actually wasting a big extra chunk of weed?!?! The acquisition of a good vaporizer just went back to near the top of my priority list! Thanks guys!
