Its not the Dutch people there, its the fucking security companies. I had the head of the Source festival come out and try to get them to let me in (my mates were Djing) and still NO. Security guards are fucking dicks all over the world. The cops came, and did not arrest me and left it to the security guards to let me in. If had paid 80 euros for my ticket i would have been furious.Tranquilised wrote:Sorry to hijack but is this really true of all of them? It was the first time I realised the gulf of opinion between Dutch weed smokers and those who don't, but still can't imagine they will bust everyone they see at every outdoor festival for toking up?

Doubtful even if they do follow through with it.
Depends how the first 2 questions go, what locals you know and if they decide to tag on any other draconian bollox regarding smoking along the way.

Well, At least I will get a shot at it before it changes (or not). be there 18th to 22nd. Not interested in the cup per say, ( as it will be my first time) but all of the overpriced gear i can hope for! Bonglord, I ask for your guidance in my quest to find the best of the best.

Sorry to jump right in here with my first post (long time lurker though and did contribute some reviews around 2001/2!!) but I'm off to Awakenings in a few weeks and saw on their website that they have a zero tolerance to weed and hash. I haven't heard back from the Dutch friends I'm meeting up with as to how strict they are but the last thing I want after shelling out over £300 for the weekend is to get kicked out. I will have a few hours to wander around before I head to the festival site but I'll be gutted if I can't have a smoke during the day.Tranquilised wrote:Sorry to hijack but is this really true of all of them? The Lowlands story reminds me a bit of when I went to Extrema Outdoor in 2006. I probably had about 3 grams and a couple of pre-rolled when I went through security and the guy said I had too much. He made me choose which of the pre-rolled I had to hand over and then let me in. It wasn't as if he weighed what I had or anything and I'm sure he just stuck it in his pocket for later - perk of the job I suppose but annoyed me at the time.
I only head over to Holland once or twice a year now but the prospect of the tourist ban coming into effect does concern me. I go to Pukkelpop in Belgium every summer and always stop off in Eindhoven on the way for supplies. Obviously I go to the festival for the music and the experience but I would seriously miss having a good smoke over the weekend if I couldn't pick any up on the way through. Ironically, the security at Pukkelpop couldn't care less what people get up to and you can pretty much skin up and smoke anywhere you like!

Welcome and I am pretty sure you will find Lowlands will be enforcing the rule....Semprini wrote:Sorry to jump right in here with my first post (long time lurker though and did contribute some reviews around 2001/2!!) but I'm off to Awakenings in a few weeks and saw on their website that they have a zero tolerance to weed and hash. I went to Dance Valley last year, just outside Amsterdam.
I had about 5 gms, all of which, got taken off me.
My mate who was in the queue behind me stuck his down his trousers and waltezed straight in so we at least had something.
Was gutted at the time though.

Fuck.
I'm off to Awakenings as well in 3 weeks time, didn't realise there was a zero tolerance to weed.
I went to Awakenings at the Gashouder in Easter last year, they weren't bothered about weed at all. Will have to check this out further.

I've smoked at North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam - about 4/5 spliffs over the evening. Saw people sat around rolling up and a few smoking. That said we were by far in the minority than the majority.

The minority, rather than the majority, at a JAZZ festival, in a country where for all intents and purposes weed and hash are legal?puffthemagicdragon wrote:I've smoked at North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam - about 4/5 spliffs over the evening. This my poor brain just does not understand?!
Re: Tourist ban IS happening?
The festival usually draws a large international crowd and its indoors as well. Beside for the 100 euro a day I spent last year, I would rather see the couple sets and smoke after.Tranquilised wrote:The minority, rather than the majority, at a JAZZ festival, in a country where for all intents and purposes weed and hash are legal?puffthemagicdragon wrote:I've smoked at North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam - about 4/5 spliffs over the evening. There are a couple of parts where you are outside - in the food court areas just outside the Nile arena, and also leading to some of the smaller stages. That's where people were smoking.Balou wrote: The festival usually draws a large international crowd and its indoors as well.
