They are very popular in AMS and one of the best places to stop for some is Vlaamse Frites on Voetboogstraat.

The burger bar looks splifferific. There's nothing like a fresh ground medium well burger.

Have you ever stayed in any hostels?

No, never stayed at a hostel. I didnt like the sleeping and facility arrangements and the security of your stuff. Ive stayed at hotels and apartments on my visits, although I find apartments the most suitable. Its possible to have one for as little as 60-70 euro a day. Its preferable as you have more of a home comfort, along with a stove and fridge, which helps save money.

60 - 70 euro's is like 90 Canadian. It would cut too deeply into my research funds. Other than some cloths all my important stuff will be with me. Do I need to travel around Europe with my passport or can I leave it in Paris?

As a citizen of a non EU country, your passport is the valid ID you'll have.

I will be a first time visitor myself so tie me to this but there are many websites that you could start searching for cheaper places to sleep like hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com. I will be there on the 21st till 24th this month and I am getting a bed at Shelter City for only 20 Euros/night.

To OP - You need to take your passport with you to AMS if youre still stationed in Paris. you are entering new countries so very necessary. Always have it with you locally, although its not really necessary to keep it on you at all times. Just have a copy of it. I keep mine physically in the hotel or apartment (so i dont lose it) and have an electronic copy accessible in my iPhone if necessary. Its a good idea to keep a scanned copy of your CCs, passport, etc. in a scanned file or email of sorts. Just the same, I always keep the Coffeeshop Map in my iPhone, too. Makes things much easier.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Shelter City Hostel? Seeing as its a Christian type place I would think the don't have a smoking room.

They do have the cheapest prices but there has to be a catch.
