great report JBomb... enjoyed reading it even more since i can still visualize it all freshly!

de kroon had some great mk-ultra, u had to buy 2 grams i believe..

and i to was surprised to see that the new greenhouse was open and selling... it really does look like an hole in the wall from outside. i also noticed they still have the blue velvet painting on the metal slide that comes down when the shop closes.

cheers dude!

Hi Jbomb

First off, great reports, cheers for making the effort to keep us all up to date. Will you keep us up to date with the Floyd's takeover? Im wondering if they are going to change the entire theme, are old favourites from the Floyd's menu going to stay eg. mothers finest, top tits, ummagumma? are the staff staying on?

thanks

Weedly Week Report 23/2-6/3

Post by jBomb »

23/2 - Friday
Today, Oracle, Tak, and myself got to check out the Highlife Cup, which was, at least in comparison to the High Crimes Cannabis Corrupt, 1000X better and about 10X bigger with a minimal amount of tourists and gawkers. Not nearly as entertainment and tourist driven as the HTCC, The Highlife Cup is in actuality the trade show for the cannabis industry, and the cup is a fairly recent addition to it. Held in a large convention area in the RAI, most of the larger seed, grow, hemp, and accessory companies had large booths with chill out sections, some with vaporizers (BYOW) and free samples of different papers, lighters, issues of Soft Secrets, and other goodies. Some places even served free drinks, others live music to attract the ear to their booth. We also got to meet Werner, courtesy of MileHighDenver, former political candidate for the Groen Vrij Party and one of the first people to write a comprehensive books about Coffeeshops. I hope I can do a small credit to his legacy with this report. Cheers, Werner, and cheers MHD. Good to see you, man. The other highlight was to see just how inventive and innovative people can get with growing, harvesting, and curing weed properly. My favorite items by far were the all-in-one, self-functioning closet systems big enough for you to craw into. Awesome.

Sun 25/2
Barneys Lounge
1g White Widow - 8,5
Currently, the only weed in Barney’s menu under 10 Euro. Very strong, though. Very, very strong… actually strung me out a bit in the end. This WW may very be chem.-ed to hell, as has been the rumor about most of Barneys and Amnesia, and the weed was looking unnaturally green, like “glowing green.” More and more people in town seem to be sticking with Bio-organic weed more and more. Perhaps a trend?

28/2 - Wed
Nes
1g Enemy of the State Haze - 10,
On the search for a good sativa, I stopped in with my good friend BluMing to say hi to DC and enjoy ourselves in Nes the Coffeeshop while we still could. I, against both my and DC’s better judgment, went with the EOTS Haze, as I had giving up on ever finding it a few weeks ago. Though the smell was off bit (like a patent leather shoe, according to DC), I got caught up and bought a gram. Enjoyed some of it in the bong. It’s a nice smoke, but the Titanic at 8,5 is in actuality much better, flavor and bud wise. Also check out the Sage N Sour.

2/3 - Fri
Grey Area
Super Silver Haze Shake - 10,
I hear the Dampkring’s SSH is better, I’m trying to find my way over there to try it out properly

3/3 - Sat
Grey Area
1g Anunnaki - 13,5
In preparation for a long night out, went with an out and out sativa to add a little flavor.

4/3 Sun
OV Hortus
2.4g Mamma Mia - D-Day Special - 10,
2,1g Mega White Thing - D-Day Special - 10,
Had to be done - Still one of the best deals in town for a place where the weed, though not the prettiest, never fails to impress.

5/3
Grey Area
1g AK-47 - 8,5
You’d think with all the weed I had at my place, I’d remember to bring a gram or two… then again, the amount of weed at my place is probably the exact reason why I forgot…
Nice strain though… Grey Mist and Super Silver are also top grabs right now. Chocolope always nice, too.

As the end of March approaches, lovers of both drink and smoke will be forced to make some hard decisions here in Mokum, as at that point, liquor can no longer be served in Coffeeshops. Though I'm not sure which shops will drop weed and which will drop alcohol, there are some safe bets. I’m sure most of us have heard by now that the Nes will stop selling weed after 31/3. This saddens all of us, as it’s been a while that such a quality shop has been edged out, hopefully it will be a long time before it happens again. It would be lunacy for Dampkring, or Greenhouse, to lose their weed, so those are obvious. Hunters will probably keep alcohol, cause the Coin is across the street on Warmoestraat and owned by the same folks. There are two Stones Cafés on this street, too. One is currently a smoker’s bar only and the other a coffeeshop with alcohol, but I’m guessing not for long, as they’ll probably drop liquor too. De Kuil/Café 420 is staying green, despite its quintessential bar atmosphere, but its popularity for good weed (which I personal have a hard time justifying) will not allow them shed gear for beer (get it?). Hill St Blues on Warmoestraat, I imagine would keep alcohol, as it’s another actual bar on a main late night strip of town. In addition, there is another HSB on Nieuwmarkt w/ no alcohol already, so the weed is in a safe place. The Doors will probably stick with weed, but they have two shops (Singel and Spuistraat), so one may drop it and the other keep it. Rick Café is centered in the nightlife portion of town, and could stand to stay open as a bar, but will probably opt for weed (Oracle says the weed there now is better than its been in a long time). There are a couple others, but these I think are of the greatest concern for most people. There’s also the Grasshoppers, if you can be bothered to put up with the ripoff. They will naturally keep weed, but the larger one off Damrak is actually three separate levels, and if the bar is kept separate, they might be able to pull it off. These are my predictions as it stands now.

Another central question is the issue of closing times on Fri and Sat. Currently, ONLY shops that sell liquor stay open until 3, rather than 1, on the weekends. However, if the liquor license is lost, will those Coffeeshops now have to close at one. If anyone here has any insight into this, it would be appreciated.

That’s about it from here. Until next time…

Yep, they'll be coffeeshops...so they'll have to follow coffeeshop rules 1am close.

Thank you for confirming my worst fears about this, DC. Thus, starting April 1...

NO COFFEESHOP WILL BE OPEN PASSED 1AM ANY NIGHT OF THE WEEK.

F'n drag.

Really interesting report JBomb,

Im going to the Dam the first week of April and I was wondering if this new regulatin is for Amsterdam only? Iv read so many good thing about Haarlem, so we decide that we are going to spend a day there. I was thinking that maybe place like the Willlie wortel and the Het Theehui might have to choose between booze or weed...
Any info on this would be really appreciated.
To live is to die, so might as well have some fun

I dont know of ANY shop outside of Amsterdam that sells booze, and I know for a fact that Willie Wortels and the Theehuis, like 99% of shops, are dry.

Perhaps some in Rotterdam? I'm unsure if and how it will effect them/

Thanks for the report jbomb, very informative for my upcoming trip. Any ideas on which of the shops choosing beer over gear will remain 'smoker friendly'? I'm guessing that some (if not most) will still allow you to take your stuff there and smoke?

Weedly Week Report 11/3-20/3

Post by jBomb »

11/3 - Sun

Went to a rave with Oracle the night (and morning) before… I saw the Penguins!

Ricks Café
1g Santa Maria Bio - 7,5
***THANKS TO ORACLE FOR THE RECOMMENDATION ***
Nice Pungent aroma, very smooth - totally bio - definitely a prime choice. Grind it up and you can smell it for miles.

1g Northern Lights 8,
Perfect follow-up to the SMB joint. Made the lights twinkle.

Though I was only in for a second, Ricks seems to have a very cool double-level bar atmosphere. I hear that they even have live music on some weekends. It’s unknown, to me at least, whether or not the will keep alcohol or weed, if the choice indeed is made at the end of the month. Let’s hope they stay green, considering the high quality of their bud.

16/3 - Wed
An impromptu and all too brief visit with BluMing and Nytvd at Bluebird. Good to see you guys.

15/3 - Thu
Grey Area
2g Granddaddy Purple - 27,
Ka - BOOM! Brand new strain, a powerful sativa that Sat well in my bong and in my head. Best Strain since Chocolope, in my opinion.

19/3 - Mon
2g Purple Urkle - 20, - Jam in the Dam Special
One of two new strains for the Jam in the Dam this past weekend. The other is Master Kush and both are quite nice, but the PU did catch my eye, covered in dark purple hair. Beautiful, and pretty cheap, all things considered.

2g Sweet Haze Shake - 10,
Should have gotten the Chocolope… damn.

Dampkring
1g Mako Haze - 11,
This strain is too popular for me never to have smoked it, but it was indeed my first, and it went straight to my head. Got kind of floaty-dizzy, then giggly. Made walking home in the hail a breeze.

A lot of folks have been wondering what the Ice-O-Lator market is looking like. Well, the overall quality and quantity has gone up since the winter, and no major grows have been shut down lately, so Ice is slowly coming up in supply. However, in most places, the price gouging continues. The cheapest at Bushdoctor is currently 30 Euro, with most other places running 25, to 40, per gram, depending on quality and what shop you’re dealing with. For right now, but for a VERY limited time, Grey Area has some AK47 Ice-O for only 18, Euros. Hope you grab a gram!

Talked to the owner of Rookies… because the already own another bar on Leidseplein, Rookies will remain green. Though they don’t have a stellar menu, it is one of the nicer shops in Leidseplein, the other being Rokerij 1. Nice to know another license is safe for the time being.

Weed OTW - Santa Maria Bio from Ricks Café. Very nice, long lasting, sweet taste, and a good price. Bio-Organic really is the way to go, and they went all the way with this one.

Shop OTW - Dampkring, but with a huge reservation. There were only two seats at the end of the bar in the whole place when we arrived. We grabbed them and had a view of the whole shop, and I forgot for a second why I don’t usually go there. I soon realized that it was because my back was turned away from the two screens showing the clip from Oceans Twelve that made the shop famous. I’m usually irritated by it in the corner of my vision and start associating getting high with poor attempts at reviving 60’s “actor’s playhouse” cinema. But that’s me. The Dampkring…. Very nice, if you’re sitting in the right seat. Plus, Oracles and Budulike’s favorite Bar maid was in the house. I said hello for you guys.

Keeping my ear to the ground, my nose to the grindstone, and one hand on my bong.

jBomb

PS - Kali Mist is around, but not a fave of mine. Will keep an eye out in the future, though. Thanks, rks0.
