Ok so me and my lovely future wife are planning a trip Amsterdam from about september 16th through the 23rd or so 2012. now i know we can go up to about 3,500 usd for the tickets and room, maybe a little more. Any suggestions on where to stay? Perhaps some suggestions on what type of clothing would be appropriate for that time of year. also how would we handle the cash situation? get it changed here, there? To be honest im a little under informed, hence all the questions. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Weather was really nice last year in September , could comfortably eat out in the evening , with good daylight hours.
Suggest a quality apartment from Amsterdam.stay.com or similar - a 17thC building as we stayed at in the Prinsengracht should do the trip / trick nicely. Beautiful and historical area.

An apartment or a houseboat would be a good choice, have a look at the following links

The weather will be warm in the day with temps in the 60's. Evenings can be quite cool with tips dipping well into the 40's. Also I would expect some rainy days sprinkled in as well.
Also be aware there is a very large convention in Amsterdam every September. Room rates can double sometimes triple and are very scarce. I don't know the dates for the IBC next year but maybe you can look them up at a later date.
Peace,
Balou

Get a houseboat on Prinsengracht if it's within budget.
In 1999, I honeymooned in AMS, and a houseboat would have been ideal. As it is, we let a HB in 2004, and it was the best accommodation EVER. Beautiful Prinsengracht has a lot of boat traffic and waterfowl.
Pack a medium-weight jacket and get your cash via ATM. Get an Electric Orange card from ING. AMS is filthy with ING ATMs. Notify the bank you'll be away in the NL.
Enjoy yourselves!

You have been posted on the September 2012
Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town during your stay.
Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.
By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.
https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/membe ... le&u=65501
I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.
First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.
How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.
You can do a little practice shopping on the
Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.
I do my money with my ATM card. they are at the airport and all over town.
Just be sure to let your bank know what you will be doing.
It's nasty to have the card suspended due to possible fraudulent activity.

I would suggest a hotel over a houseboat or apartment, though both are great choices, you are on your honeymoon, you don't need to be doing dishes and making beds, you have the rest of your life to play house. Congratulation on your up coming nuptials.

Better weather, cost more.

Enjoy

indeed it will be more, but its ok that's why we have been saving for this for quite a while. been kind of in the works for a couple of years now, but things are starting to come together and i couldn't be happier. tickets were a little over $2000, place to stay is still in the works. after that its just a matter of the passports coming back. for now im off to smoke a bowl, watch futurama and dream of spring.

Quick question, anyone know if there are requirements for us passports? Like do I have to have it for any length of time before we go?

Nope. You can receive it the day of your travels and be good to go.
You might want to scan that and your license/ID and e-mail to yourself so you have an e-copy. Also make a paper copy as back-up.
