After the 'weedpas', the government is now considering another unrealistic law, which has been all over the news here today...

They are seriously thinking about scheduling cannabis products with a THC percentage over 15% as a hard drug, which means, weed/resin with a THC percentage over 15% will be illegal (and another reason to shut down lawbreaking coffeeshops...). Since the production of weed is still illegal and thus not produced under controlled circumstances, coffeeshops will have to send all the weed they want to sell to a lab (right now the capacity of those labs is definitely not big enough to test all samples, plus testing those samples will cost loads of money) before putting it on the menu...

Well, we'll see again what's going to happen... I can not find any resource in English, maybe in the next week foreign newspapers will report about the new plans...

Very strong varieties of marijuana should be classified as a hard drug, RTL news reports on Friday, quoting a leaked report for the government.


Marijuana with more than 15% THC – the active ingredient in the drug – is so dangerous it should be classed alongside heroin and cocaine, the committee says.

The report will be formally handed to ministers later on Friday.

(Reuters) - The Netherlands, famous for its liberal soft drugs policies, said on Friday it may label some highly concentrated forms of cannabis as a hard drug on a par with cocaine or heroin, because of the risk of addiction.

With many coffee shops openly selling cannabis to customers and a tolerance of home-cultivation of marijuana plants, the Netherlands attracts attention in the global debate about soft drugs policies.

In the past three years, it has restricted and discouraged the use and sale of soft drugs on health and crime grounds, and wants to limit drug tourism, particularly in border towns.

The government has proposed special "weed passes" to stop visitors using coffee shops and restrict access to residents, which some analysts predict could lead to a fall in tourist numbers and spending.

Now, a Dutch commission has found that hashish and marijuana on sale in the Netherlands contain around 18 percent of THC, the main psychoactive substance, and advised the health minister that anything above 15 percent put drugs on a par with heroin or cocaine.

"I've been very worried for years about the THC concentration, especially if it is so high. We will take a serious look at it," Health Minister Edith Schippers told public broadcaster NOS.

"The addictive consequences are much stronger and severe. Clearly this is a worrying development."

When asked if tolerant soft drugs policies would end if some cannabis was labeled as a hard drug, she said: "The THC concentration fluctuates widely so the 15 percent level is not common. You'd have to look at how to change this development."

Law Professor Dirk Korf of the University of Amsterdam said he did not expect this change to have a clear impact on other countries' policies.

"In Europe you can see both liberalization and a more restrictive policy. It will depend on the country and which phase it is in," Korf said.

This is no where remotely true. Stronger weed has zero to do with strengthing your penchant for pot and has no different side effects than does "weak" (15%) pot.

As far being on par with either heroin or cocaine, well that is just insane.

the netherlands are one of the smallest country in the EU, they get money from the EU and other things.....to get those things they have to release those stupid shit from time to time, so our dump presidents from other EU countries can sleep better....thats all there is to it (except Gert Wilders and his fucking nazi party who really want to ban it)

Well, I hope so, but politics have changed a little over here since the last elections... The majority of the christian party in the government wants to ban all drugs, the liberals in government aren't that liberal at all and a large number of them don't mind to ban either, Wilders party definitly wants to ban, and this government also depends on a very small fundamental christian party that wants to ban all drugs at every cost, so at least I am a bit more worried now than in earlier times, since there is no more left wing party in the government.

As for a little detail, the Netherlands pay twice as much for EU than they receive, plus the opinion towards softdrugs in some countries in the EU is more liberal than it was in former years (in Belgium for instance it is even legal to have one plant, while in the Netherlands it is officially illegal, the number of complaints from France and Germany is almost zero these days)

Next up, since the first of july it is strictly illegal to grow any amount of plants under any other light than the sun... It doesn't make any difference for 'coffeeshop growers' since growing more than 5 plants has been illegal for quite some time, but for medicinal growers it's a bad thing. It shows how the repression in the Netherlands is getting worse every month...
