up way too early- Traveling companions heading back this morning...helping them to station ...they're taking alternative route to Schipol . from this end of town you can take the 4 tram to RAI and catch a train to the airport . much less congestion ,time in line etc.

Funkiest weed of trip award will go to Budha Haze from CS Babylon
As soon as we fired some up we could tell this was funky weed ...
not so in tune with my taste buds to say it tastes like this or that
but hit me like the first time I tried a cheese.

Image

Weedhog- We've had very few language issues over the years in our roadtrips ...if you get into Germany you may find some problems . They don't seem to like to speak English like the Dutch Unless you engage first in German , or try .
If you know the basics ,like "Een Hash Joint AUB "you should do fine . But we've found people in the smaller towns more likely to engage in conversation , often political (you should have heard it in the bush years) ,offer tips on their towns , buy you a drink , fill your bowl etc. Just a lot of curiosity out there about the USA.
For example the Frisian lady at the Boomsma Distillery Museum in Leeuwarden... after discovering we were from the USA ,it was a free sample of ALL their products ...
(there may be a pic from that session earlier) ...The Dutch are wonderful people .Go for it .
I may be wrong ,but it seems to me that this society gives one credit for common sense and good behavior ...that's how they approach each other, act as such, and no problems .

The palace on dam square is open . Museum cards get you in ...

Image

few notes - I think Frank Zappa was in Nes the other night .

Basjoe is in this loop of terrible music lately ...don't know how to describe it ,other than adolescent rasta babe songs ,sappy reggae re-mixes of songs like "you don't have to be a star baby to be in my show " ..."King Dread James" should play more of that music he helps make with his buddy Oded Nir (who frequents the place regularly) ,but the place is in serious jeopardy of losing its icon status , the music is just SO lame .

New Times has become our CS of Choice in the Spui area ... 4 or 5 visits in our weeks here ...always friendly , clean ,comfortable, good menu ,good Hash Joint .

well - off to the airport -at least I'm coming back this time ...

was good to see you again as well Gapie ...now the ugly business of getting home ...don't know if I mentioned we got over here on a Delta buddy pass .Trip report in itself . but it's one of those situations where both options are winners ...Get one of the flights home ,or don't and be "stuck" in Amsterdam another day or two ...
been a wild ride in any case

see ya next time Amsterdam ...

Epsilon- thanks so much for a really fantastic report. I loved all the pictures, and the information about areas outside of Amsterdam.

It makes me happy that Amnesia Haze is still going strong everywhere, as it's a favorite smoke of mine.

Again, I just have to say great report!

Mata Hari pulled some strings with KLM ,and we caught the first plane stateside .business class at that ...would be glad to relate our "buddy pass" experience to anyone thinking of giving it a go ...bottom line= We had almost a month in Holland /Germany AND saved enough cash to go again in the off season ...But - If you have a set time / place ya gotta be there or back...not a good option .

It seemed to both of us that the wiet this summer was less that stellar , same for the hash ... A bud tender told us it's generally better in the winter ,due to the grow methods ...but even so we noticed a drop off this compared to summers past .
For the first time ever de Vrouw DIDNT pick Basjoe as her favorite shop , not because of the weed-the bas Special was just fine , the Hasj joints the best I sampled - , not because of James or the staff , not the other patrons , but the Music quite frankly sucked (unless he was playing an Oded Nir / King Dread James track, which was rare )...ended up moving our scrabble games to Mellow Yellow near the end of the trip .
... the Bas was shut down for whole days , with unpredictable opening hours . She picked Hill St. at the Market as favorite shop and the Hill St. Special as her top strain . I'm not quite with her with the strain ...but this year it would be hard to pick anything that really stood out ...including some of Barneys Lounges pricier stuff ...Amnesia Haze was always a good smoke though . My favorite shop ? - Repelsteeltje in Leeuwarden wins the Oscar this year . Been visiting this shop for close to a decade ,always a pleasure . Leeuwarden was also home to the friendliest budtenders ...particularly the girl at de Os , who mapped us out a nice walk to the park among other things . They don't get many tourists and they treat us right in that town .

Image
top floor of repelsteeltje

Groningen has lots of shops ,but they're all over the map in regards to how they follow the 08 smoking laws . Some just getting out of the smoke on premises business entirely , or making it so uncomfortable no one would want to do so .

Image

We came upon this big boy outside of CS Metamorphises in Groningen , which is one of the reccomended shops there .

Image
Gouda main square one of the nicer in the NL.

It was a pleasure meeting forumites . As far as I know we met Marco / K... (she's a keeper) the Guru , and Rufus for the first time ...and DC and Gapie again ... I thought I spotted Soul Rider at one point entering 420, but the guy had no hair.
Gapie has some awesome taste buds ...he'd take a toke of something and break it down into its crosses and then in a minute or so he'd analyze the effects ...I want to run into him early in the next trip .

Image

The only serious bad vibe we got was at CS the Border .way out by the Amsterdamse Bos - You can take the girl out of the country ,but not the country out of the girl . So we were WAY the freak out there looking for the Bos Manege (we found it)
and right at the entrance stands a very nice looking shop. With this big dog ...It was like YES there's a CS way out here .
Went in and AFTER we bought some weed , were told "We don't allow tourists here ." WTF .tables . chairs ,

Image
heavenly atmosphere .uh-uh. In years past we never came across such places anywhere in Holland ...this year ,different .

favorite new shop New Times on Spuistraat ...always friendly ,good menu, clean , nice music ,comfy, almost to being posh , and a damn fine hash joint .

Image
New Times wall girl.

the Rembrandtplein got yet another makeover ...all Harry Pottery last week .

see ya next time kitty ....

Frank Zappa died in 1993 of prostate cancer.

Love the Austin Healey. It was a very hot car in its day.

Thats a great pic of Stan the Man. Did you know he is still alive and frequents cardinal games. he gets to ride around the stadium in a convertible car waving at fans.
