Today is Keti Koti, or Emancipation Day in Suriname (and NL)

Post by Marco »

Keti Koti means ‘the chains have been broken’, which refers to the abolition of slavery in the nation of Suriname, which is celebrated as a national holiday on July 1.

This happened in 1863, 2 years before June 19, 1865 when Texas abolished slavery.
