tilburg - yay or nay?

Post by CHELSEA_SMOKERS_SOCIETY »

a friend really wants to go over to see 'enter shikari' play in tilburg in october... despite being the polar opposite of the music i enjoy... any excuse to head to holland, so im looking at planning the trip.

so ive searched the travelogues and beejun mentioned some good sounding smokes to be had back in feb, but information/opinion seems to be quite thin on the ground about this place. theres no menu pages either on fly by nights pages.

if its not worth our time we would just pop in and out of town to see the show, if its sounds good, we may aswell set up base there for a day and night.

so

a) whats the town like to look at?
b) whats the CS scene like?
c) any specific things or places to see and do?

any opinions on tilburg would be much appreciated.

cheers

Have been to Tilburg several times and visited all shops there. Beforehand I have to say you can count on all these informations here as menus etc. rarely change in Tilburg(and a lot of places outside of Amsterdam).

a+c) as you funnily said almost everyone needs an excuse(bad conscience and all that, long story) to have a trip to the 'Netherlands' and probably being high all day - except for me of course, don't need an alibi and keep it real so personally don't care about bullshit filed under 'culture'(sights etc.) . But I can assure you it's an okay enough place(no historic city really, nothing 'picturesque' but nothing unsightful either in my humble opinion). Have been to concerts at 013 and can't complain about that thing, too.
Sorry, that's it from me.

b) Toermalijn is one of the best shops throughout the Netherlands. For all I know their weed is all organic and they offer a good choice(especially 'famous'/newer strains), very constant quality. A small place though. The garden is unbeatable in summer. See the reviews of this place here.
Toermalijn alone is worth a journey to Tilburg.

De Muze is another favourite of mine. Relatively big menu(nothing exceptional)and good quality. Friendly people and atmosphere.

Rest of the shops you can't really go wrong either but they're a lot more local. Means standard strains and one haze on the menu(phenomenon occuring all over the Netherlands by the way). In general quality is good in town.

Considering that I would suggest: Grass Company/Ochtendgloren(same chain, same menu), Africa, Crackers and Shiva(relatively long distances between each other)
Personally I'd like to add Rif(same street as Toermalijn few doors down) - try the fresh moroccan mint tea.

Have fun in Tilburg and let us know about it.

I'm visiting a friend in Tilburg in four weeks, I'm looking forward to seeing a bit of real Dutch life. I am of course having a night in Amsterdam before I leave.
