Background: My bro and I (longtime tokers, not brothers, just buds) visited the Netherlands for the first time. We were new to 'connoiseur' bud (having never spent much time in california, vancouver, etc.). At home, we are lucky to get some 'purple haze' or 'kush' on occasion, but otherwise it is pretty nondescript. We have only smoked hash once or twice before this trip. One of our modus operandi on our first trip to Amsterdam was to try a lot of different strains, to try to become connoiseurs. Unless otherwise noted, we purchased 5e (or 0.5g) quantities in order to try many different kinds in our short trip. Also, we smoked everything either as a pure joint or pure from a small metal pipe that we bought from one of the coffeeshops. We only smoked Dutch-style cones with tobacco when someone was sharing them with us.

Wed, July 6:
After landing, taking the train to Amsterdam Zuid, and finally getting a ride to our apt, I rented a bike. My bro just used his skateboard the first day - mad props to him for keeping up for miles with Amsterdam bike traffic all day! We headed for the closest coffeeshop with a good reputation for gear -- Boerejongens. I could not believe the steady stream of customers they get. They get impatient if you look at the menu for more than like 5 seconds. We picked up 5e of Lemon Haze, Bio High Rise, Big Buddha Cheese shake, and either Super Silver OG13 or Super Silver XL (not sure which). Since you can't smoke there, we headed to Kashmir Lounge. Two hits into the first joint of pure Super Silver, I questioned whether or not I was going to be able to handle a whole week of this Next we hit the Lemon Haze. For a good 45 minutes after we left the shop, I could hardly ride my bike. I felt like a fool trying to stay in control and navigate Amsterdam. I had to keep asking my bro to stop for a second while I mentally stabilize. I would caution anyone else in the same situation to either walk your bike on the sidewalk or just stay somewhere for a while. Biking in Amsterdam can be really dangerous. We saw a girl on a bike get hit by a car in an intersection right behind us, right after we passed through -- it really makes you think!

We tried to head downtown to Grey Area (we never made it there, by the way). On the way we stopped at 1e Hulp -- a nice 'local' spot -- and picked up some White Widow, Sour Diesel, and Amnesia. We tried a Volcano for the first time with the Sour Diesel - nice!

We stopped at every bridge to take pictures -- beautiful! Having water all around the city gives it a really calming vibe.

Finally, at Coffeeshop 96 we purchased some C-5 Haze and Aka Skunk.

Thanks for the write-up so far. I love that you are trying to try as much stuff as possible. I can't believe anyone tries to ride a bike in Amsterdam- it looks like utter chaos. I'll stick to the trams and walking.

Actually I was struck by how organized it seems on some of the bigger avenues -- the chaotic part is the tourists like us, who didn't know what we were doing at first Bikes seem to 'rule' the streets there though. And except for the bridges, the streets are flat, which makes biking lots of fun, even for someone as out of shape as me. My rear did hurt pretty bad though!

Thanks, I read it before the trip. In fact I read just about every post on this forum to get ready for our trip!

Have seen a couple of bike crashes over the years, im still yet to get on one over there haha... i remember moments of comedy terror during my first few visits, being completely high, sound of bells coming from everywhere, having to run accross a mess of tram lines, un marked roads and bike lanes.... Seemed to get quite a rush in just making it across a junction

Thursday, July 7:
After a mind-blowing wake-and-bake of the C-5 Haze, I talked my bro into renting a bike so we could cover more ground. Our first stop of the day was Katsu, since it has a great reputation, nice selection, and some strains we wanted to check out, plus it was on the way in to town. Unfortunately they would not do 5e or 0.5g quantities, but there was still a bunch of stuff we wanted to buy. We ended up dropping about 80e here. We got four types of herb: Chronic, Black Widow, Super Jamaican, Mexican Haze; plus Paroc hash (a new item) and (since they stopped selling Haze20 ice-o-lator) Crystal Clear. We tried out the Mexican Haze with the Verdamper. I found the Verdamper very similar to (although a lot more unwieldy than) my home VaporDoc vaporizer (which does not use water, but has a similar heating element). The water was nice, but not a huge difference from regular dry vape. Then we proceeded to roll up that Mexican Haze we had just vaped and smoked it (don't laugh, I usually do not smoke duff, but in this case it was very worthwhile!)

The Paroc hash turned out to be one of my favorite purchases--it made my thoughts and movements echo and reverbate in my head, making me feel like some kind of massive, powerful stone golem whose every step shakes the earth. It was not a hallucination, more like an impression. Guess you had to be there, but it was cool and I hope you get to experience a similar sensation at some point. Both hashes really clear your sinuses, which I didn't know to expect.

Our next stop was Mellow Yellow. We seemed to pass it every time we went in or out of town. We picked up some Chocolope and some shady-looking Dr. Grinspoon (I know pure sativas can be lean and lanky, but this was almost all stem!).

We went through some of the busiest intersections in Amsterdam on bike during the day -- not recommended! Quite a rush though! I got mad at my bro because he was trying to take videos on his phone while he was biking through the intersections -- I thought he was going to be road pizza. We almost got hit by trams, bikes, cars, you name it! Part of the fun I guess -- as long as everything turns out OK.

We finally made it to one of our destinations, Basjoe. It has such a great reputation on this forum that I wanted to make sure we made it there. The budtender got mad when I tried to take a picture of the menu, so I deleted the photo. We picked up some Heaven Haze and some of their delicious multicolor cakes and hung out for a while.

At a restaurant Cafe Stevens, I ordered a Strongbow Gold, thinking it was a beer. I thought it was peculiar that they gave me a glass with ice with it -- until I realized Strongbow Gold was apple cider!! The fried cheese sticks (made with Dutch cheese of course) were delicious though.

Finally we went to Voyagers, another place with a great reputation, and once again there were a steady stream of customers. We picked up some Lemon Larry OG and Casey Jones.

Thanks for reporting. Wow you are brave to rent a bike on your first Dam trip. MY next trip will be my 5th and I am going to try to bike one day. If it works out well I may try more days. thanks for sharing your experiences.

Great report thanks! Also great choice re hiring a bike - it took me 20 years to get around to renting one myself and MY GOD how it improves the trip! No more interminable walks feeling hungry with aching feet after the usual MILES of walking every day!

Friday, July 8-Sunday, July 10:
We took the train to Rotterdam for a multi-day music event. We ate our multicolor Basjoe cakes on the train. (The cakes had a mild effect, maybe because we were already 'saturated'.)

We only visited a few coffeeshops while we were in Rotterdam, so I will try to keep this part short (it is ACD, not RCD, after all ). I was happy we stumbled upon Coffeeshop Trefpunt, where you could sit on barstools and watch the passersby through picture windows. We picked up some Jack Herrer (which they claimed was the strongest stuff ANYWHERE -- and it was not bad, but that is quite a claim to make) and some Santa Maria. We also picked up some delicious space cakes -- buttery pound cake with plenty of green in them. (Once again, the effects were OK, although I think we were already 'saturated' at that point.) We also went to The Act, which was surprisingly large and had a Verdamper you could use.

We went to Coffeeshop Bilbao. I would not recommend this coffeeshop. First off, they didn't have a menu to look at, they just asked us what we wanted, and everything was the same price (14e, I think). Then, when we went in the back room and tried to smoke some hash, a guy started chewing us out (in Dutch I think?). Apparently you cannot smoke in there. I don't know if he was a regular or what, but he was PISSED OFF. We made tracks!!

We went to one other coffeeshop in Rotterdam (Charlios I think, and I think we picked up some Bubblegum and White Widow, but I had lost my motivation to keep detailed notes by that point )

Overall, Rotterdam was OK, but not nearly as cool, unique, and beautiful as Amsterdam.
