I think there's a plaque there to commemorate where the Germans (drunk) fired into the crowd on liberation day 8 May on Dam square, am sure there's a video of it somewhere

Wasn't the Krasnopolsky the Geman Officers quarters during the occupation?

Never knew that. I'll look for it next trip. You've made me want to delve a bit deeper into the 'dam of old now though, thanks. 8)

The shooting in dam square was on 7th May, there's a video linked from the wikipedia entry on dam square.

Theer's tons of pictures of the SS office on the amsterdam archieef photo catalogue (beeldbank stadtsarchieef) website, never realised there were gardens in front of the Krasnopolsky where the national monument is now.
