Cheap in New Year don't mix when you're talking about ho(s)tels anywhere. Prices normally double or even triple for the dates around NY. Be aware most of the budget accommodations will not allow you to check out on Jan 1. Some might even have a four night minimum stay.

Peace

I don't think Cheap and New Year mix in anything, do they, not just when talking about accommodation in Amsterdam? Maybe if you book early, the prices won't go up? Best chance is to speak to someone who owns the place and see what they have, but I doubt there'll be very affordable offers - it's the most expensive party of the year and this year might be our last.

A bit of pre-apocalyptic talk there, angry pirate, though I personally think the Mayans just got tired of counting. :)

Nope, they accidentally sacrificed their calender maker. True story.

Aah, get yer now..
On topic, cheapest digs i ever had in Dam was Hotel MyHome, Haarlemerstraat. If it's still going, worth a punt. Ask for Chris, and telling him you've stayed there before will help. Nowt wrong with a white lie...
