Re: Tourist/foreigner unfriendly coffeeshops
Yeah, kermit and tc, that's why I clarified that I might be willing to go back, and I don't want to dissuade others from staying away. (I were in the mood for people-watching, bushdoctor's outdoor seating is awesome.)
It's just that it's not a place where you will be overwhelmed with friendliness. And if you go expecting that experience, you are really really likely to be disappointed. (The budtender I usually see working I've termed Mr Gruntypants, as that seems to be his preferred mode of communication.)
USBL- certainly I keep that in mind when considering some of their gear (and would be hard pressed to be convinced to buy those items.)

Siberie,& that "ahmed" w***er who sits about in popeyes all day doing next to f-all apart from tucking the odd chair in now & again
,Thats when hes not fighting with other staff ie the hungarian woman ive noticed,Ive also noticed he waits on her boyfriend finishing his day shift & is long gone before the shouting starts! total & utter k**b end & that coupled with crappy gear well its goodbye from me,Especialy when dampkring is just over the road
1.Hunters (tourist trap thats geared towards your money)
2.Popeyes (Ahmed wan**r is a disgrace & they sell crappy gear)
3.Siberie (Ok shop/gear & even prices! but this is a local place so dont expect any red carpet)

for me Greenhouse - they just see money not the person
and for sure Mellow Yellow - if you don't buy a lot of weed from them you arn't welcome there and they have only 3 indica and 3 sativa strains in "menu", very poor

I don't know whether it's foreigners or just customers in General, but 'Funny People' was shocking on my first visit this weekend.
Must have spent all of ten minutes in there, before the shaven headed guy literally fussed us out the door, when really all we wanted was somewhere to quietly plough through vast amounts of weed we hadn't bought yet, and wanted to buy!
I don't mind surly, but that guy needs to find a new vocation, because he comes across as an angry little prick.
Another slight dishonourable mention to Grasshopper. Outside was okay, but when there were no seats we basically got forced into buying drinks BEFORE we sat down, and after spending a billion quid on a few cokes, and stepping in, we left immediately because they were playing some totally shit techno at ear bleeding levels. Not what I want to listen to stoned on a sunday afternoon. Or ever.
Eventually we sussed out some better places to hang- a weed friendly Australian bar where pints were E3.50, a few doors down from Bushdoctor, but generally, as a first timer, I found it really surprising how such a simple thing could be got so wrong. All these places need to do is provide somewhere quiet to sit and get stoned. A lot of them seem to work on the assumption that you aren't going to smoke enough weed, or drink enough, so they are almost kicking you out before you've bought anything! Crazy!

Re: Tourist/foreigner unfriendly coffeeshops
I've had a good time in some coffeeshops, gone back at a later date and had a crap time (and vice versa) alot of it is just down to pure luck - what staff is on, what mood they're in etc. There's one or two CSs I won't go back to though - mention no names at this point.
I've got to give props to City Hall though - I went in with and my girlfriend and she pulled a whitey and reenacted the Exorcist all over the floor (Weird, cos she was the biggest stoner I've known). - The budtender just quietly got out a bucket and mop and cleared it up, made sure my girlfriend was OK and gave her a glass of OJ to sip, (He didn't even get pissed off when she threw up again in his bucket!)

Seems like everyone gets that treatment in Funny People, so at least you know it wasn't you! I have never visited it after reading the unanimous slating it got on here a while back. As for grasshopper, well as me granny used to say "That'll teach you!" Guess this shows you why ACD is unrivalled for pre-trip info, helps you avoid the pitfalls of Centrum.scototo wrote:I don't know whether it's foreigners or just customers in General, but 'Funny People' was shocking on my first visit this weekend.

Re: Tourist/foreigner unfriendly coffeeshops
Yeah! I'd done a bit of a read up on here before going, but ultimately, there's so much information to take in, all I managed was to make note of a couple of ropey sounding ones to avoid in the reviews section. Funny people isn't on the map though!angry pirate wrote:Seems like everyone gets that treatment in Funny People, so at least you know it wasn't you! Aussie bar- yep that's the one! Perfect base camp if you're into the booze/weed combo.
Re: Tourist/foreigner unfriendly coffeeshops
Yep. Funny People one of the places I won't go back to. I've been in three times. First two times were just crap and surly service. Third time the asshole behind the bar tried pushing gear on me.
Three strikes and out. Won't be going back again.

But I will tell you this don't worry so much about trucks, cars, trains and trams worry about the bikes and scooters.
I've seen many people hit, so keep yours eyes open and have a great time.
hope this helps

I have never been treated rudely by any bud/bar tender in Holland, or anyone else come to think of it! Some people have been a litte terse but, we all have those days don't we? Thank them and move away...
Be nice to people and they will be nice to you??...might work.
