pot, A(msterdam) to Z(wolle)

Post by quiky »

Well, this trip saw me in the Netherlands for seven days, four of which I spent outside of Amsterdam. The weed's better outside of the capitol, folks.

Chocolope (Paradox, Amsterdam, €5/0.5g) - Several People on this forum have said that Chocolope doesn't do much. I concur.

Paradox is a nice place. While I was there, I asked the budtender whether Wietpas would happen. He said it never will -- at least not in Amsterdam nor in other large towns. He believes the impetus for Wietpas is legit: tiny border towns with a single shop attract streams of tourist traffic, and the traffic isn't nice. But Amsterdam, he points out, is used to its visitors. And these visitors makes the city a lot of money by way of motels, transportation and restaurants. In his mind, it can't happen across the board. In my mind, now is not a good time to sever a fat revenue stream.

At one hotel I got to speak with a friendly front desk person. Avoiding the subject of coffeeshops, I asked her to explain Geert Wilders. She said he is the leader of the fourth largest party in the country's present coalition government. (Wikipedia, however, calls the PVV the third largest party in the country.) It gives him no say in particular areas of policy, according to her. Her lack of emotion in discussing Wilders led me to believe he's not really a big player.

She is not too well informed about her own country, isn't she? Technically, he is not even in the government at all.

To my understanding, Wilders lead the attack on the coffeeshops, but he is a law and order man for sure.

Jack Herer (Horizon, Amersfoort, ~€5/0.5g) - I took this one first thing in the morning. I got into the shower, and whenever I closed my eyes I thought I was losing my balance. Once I got back into the room, it felt like my head was being pulled to my left.

At first the Herer was mind-bending. Eventually I summoned the discipline to go for a pre-breakfast walk. (It was a beautiful morning in Amstelveen; after a lot of bad weather, the natives were out biking, drinking up the sun.) At first, my mind simply felt ... slanted. As I walked on, it wandered off onto narrower and narrower limbs of thought. A subtle dose of positivity showed up as the buzz wound down.

Fairly strong stuff. Positive. Very nice.

Cisco: My experience outside of Amsterdam was a pleasant surprise. The bike trails between towns are clearly spelled out; there are numbered map stations along each path. The hotels are nice. People speak English, as they do in Amsterdam. Towns such as Deventer, Amersfoort and Zwolle are really pretty. And the smoke ... no let-down there, either. The coffeeshops in Zwolle in particular offered varieties I hadn't seen elsewhere.

The Chinook must've come from Deelen air base. It kept landing in a field, dropping off and picking up troops. That helicopter may look ungainly, but let me telll you, they do some crazy-ass, banked treetop approaches with these storks.

Sounds like a great trip Q ...Did you make it to the New Balance in Zwolle ?...always wondered how they fared after the 08 smoking laws kicked in. The other ones there seemed big enough to cope .The New Balance was a favorite of ours .

Epsilon: I tried two strains from New Balance and liked them both. You'll hear about them shortly :)

Willjay: I wouldn't have guessed the Netherlands was such a fine place to travel, but it is. Between the bike paths and the outdoor lifestyle of the Dutch, the weed and the strangely inexpensive hotels, it's ... perfect.

Glad to hear you had such a good time! We've just started talking about making our next trip one where we get into some of the smaller towns. I was thinking I'd really need to bring my dutch up to speed first, so it's nice to hear that you got by ok with English.

Can't wait to hear more!

I love your trip and weed reports by the way.

To answer your question, his party votes with the current coalition, but is not in the Government. So, the PVV does not supply any ministers (they have no one with experience in government so it makes it easier for them).

Long story short, if the current government does something stupid and looks bad, Wilders and the PVV can say they are not part of the gov. Clever bastards.

Hoping for more outdoor reviews. Cheers
