Tulip Mania

Post by redeyezman »

Is there a thread on this? Would be interesting to hear passed down accounts if any still exist? Is cannabis the economic recovery plan of a city with a long love affair with plants? 350+ years is a lot for me to cover. I have the good idea of everything that happened, just interested in any "little know facts" or whatever you fine readers see fit to add to this thread so we all have better understanding of the city we all so enjoy!

Its an interesting topic, I have been meaning to pick up a book on it. Apparently, the 'bubble' created by the tulip trade (and the subsequent crash) actual rivals the economic bubbles of today.

The first title "A note on the prices" and then goes into explaining how one cannot compare prices of today vs then (think technology & globalization) Lets just say everyone here makes around (US)$20,000 - $100,000 annually, and for the most part lives generally the same....(think we all goto work everyday) the top tulip record sold for 4X-20X your anual salary.

Or in other words go work the next 6-12 years to pay debt of a dead flower. Extreme waste at the upper-upper class? I will enjoy this read.
