Live - nytvd tokin' in de Pijp

Post by nytvd »

i am currently flying high with some of De Graal's Vernaze fine smoke on a nice warm clear day in de Pijp.
the market is amazing and smells of herring...

thanks to all that suggested i visit this area, it is really worthwhile to take the tram out here and de Graal is a great CS...will post the pics later.

OK, back at home and ready to upload some pics
and details.

So after reading so much about the De Pijp area
from others on this board I decided to explore it.
Took a hotel in the Zuid section,
5 minutes walk from De Graal -

Image

This CS is right on Albert Cuyp Straat a few minutes
from the market and 2 minutes from the Zuid section.
Also very close to the museum area.
A few meters down from there is a nice cafe/bar that
was very busy the nights I walked by - perfect place to
see people and have a beer.

Inside, De Graal is very big with a bar, downstairs
and upstairs area...the pic here is the upstairs area
that is very open and airy and has a pool table.
(the internet access is there too)

Image

Had the Vernaze here - a very potent and pleasant Haze at
11 EU a G. Very nice smoke.

As mentioned - the market is very close and
after you walk into it -

Image

you get past the smell of herring....
and see great stalls and shops...

Image

Not too far from there you hook a right
and when you get to this area -

Image

you are very close to Katsu - this is a small shop
and I had some Orange there - must have
been the tightest bud I have ever
taken apart - very good smoke too.
Again - the area is hopping with bars and cafes -
a great local scene

So that is my brief review of the De Pijp area -
I will definitely return to this part of Dam.

Also - getting to Schipol from that area
(or even from the Leidseplein area)
is very convenient - take the 5 tram to Zuid/WTC
and there is a train every few minutes to Schipol..
a 7 minute ride!

Other CS's I visited - Central - went there for my first time -
liked it a lot and had a G of White Wido for 5.5 EU.

Nes - was there every evening/night...Dave was a lot of fun -
one night he had me laughing so hard from his stories....
Had the Hashplant Haze and the Stella Blue - fantastic smoke.

Amnesia - tried the Honey B - amazing Haze and also had some HP13...good but not as good as last time I had it.

Since I had a lot of time this visit also went to Rijksmuseum
(nice Rembrandt exhibition/review) and the Van Gogh...
incredible Japan Meiji Art collection in addition
to the Van G's on premise.

All in all - another great Amsterdam time was had.

It's like something out of a travel guide. Great shots. If only I could drag my lazy paranoid ass out of Centrum.

Just out of curiosity, how long would it take to walk to this market from rookies as this is where we are staying on our next trip . Fantastic pics by the way. 8)

Jim/Sonja - have you got Google Earth? There's a Ruler facility which allows you to gauge distance very easily. Vondel Park is nearly 2km long apparently! You can get a download with all the ACD listings marked on too....very useful.

not far at all - walk for 10-15 minutes or use the tram!
if you don't want to bother with the stripkaart just buy a ticket on the tram for 1.60 from machine or person.
Trams are great for just having fun too - riding the tram back and forth for 10-12 stops when stoned is a great way to see the city and people!remember - ticket is good for an hour so the return can be free sometimes too.

wow, that's a nice sight to see. i was in de pijp everyday of my last visit (sep 14 to 19). i stay in a hotel close to the heineken museum and de pijp is a short walk. katsu is my favorite shop, but de graal and greenhouse are great shops too. seeing the photos is making me want to book my next trip. i did have an interesting experience at katsu that i should share in another thread...basically a police raid while i was there...anyone ever seen that in a coffeeshop? not street cops, but almost swat type with several plainclothes. i left quietly, but they were inside for about an hour. did't mention it on my next visit a couple days later..thanks for the pix.
