I can vouch for the quality of HSB's Afghaan.

When I started smoking as a UK student in the early '90's pretty much all we could get apart from the odd pressed brick of "african" weed was called "red seal" 'cause it came in bricks wrapped in red see-through plastic (there was also gold seal; less frequently available at a slightly higher price). It was well-priced and always seemed to give the same effect i.e. you didn't seem to build up a tolerance after smoking a load!

Having travelled to 'Dam at least twice a year since then I looked for it every trip, trying Super Afghaans, Power Afghaans, Neps, Balls, Himalayan this n that and everything in between, asking any Brit dealers in shops and the friendlier Dutch ones if they were familiar with this description/strain.

It was not until I staggered into HSB @ Market late one night I tried their Afghaan and it was as soft, pliable, crumbly/fluffy, earthy, spicy, peppery and as easy to roll into tiny sausages without heating as the original had been.

You can't go wrong for €5 a gram but I have spent much more on lower quality thinking it was going to be the one until I found this-a clear, mellow high with an earthy, smooth, sweet taste-I am no expert on contaminants but always found this a clean smoke and I have smoked soap bar and tobacco in my time so know something about the difference!

So go for it!

The province and altitude of your former home have no bearing on this statement. When you lived in Afghanistan, the hash was Afghan hash. But your domestic 'Afghan' hash from Cali isn't really Afghan hash.
redeyezman wrote:The stuff I got was authentic, and looked similar to the picture (which seems to be dead link now) showed.
Yes, I'm not contesting Afghan hash you had in Afghanistan was Afghan hash. The 'domestic' stuff from Cali isn't Afghan hash though. It needs to be from Afghanistan to be Afghan hash. That's what the word Afghan signifies. That's why you put the word domestic in there to differentiate... It's easy when you know how.
redeyezman wrote:I lived, bought, and smoked it all there so I guess that makes me an expert.
No. It doesn't. Not even slightly close.
redeyezman wrote:Never got anything black, but believe what you want.
I completely believe you never got anything black... that's why you're clinging so adamantly to your limited, insular and incorrect information.
redeyezman wrote:If its impossible to get anything like the pictured showed in A-dam, that's one thing, but don't go around telling me what I have or haven't smoked.

I'm doing nothing of the sort. It's you telling everyone here that black hash should be avoided when lots of us have smoked good black hash, and you haven't. The only comment I made about your pic was that 'I'm sure it's awesome'.
redeyezman wrote:I didn't mean black afghan wasn't necessarily "afghan" but just showing what a true Aghan gem would look like from my personal experience.
I know exactly what you meant and responded to the particular points you made (and this wasn't one of them). I've based this not just my own personal experience, but also collective wisdom gleaned from others who are older and wiser.

Next time you go to Afghanistan, try and see hash being made the traditional way (as outlined in my first post). Sure, sifted Afghan pollen's more reliable for high quality - because it's harder to hide contaminants in it. But if you never had a high grade black Afghan hash whilst you were out there, you missed out. It's the centuries-old processing method that makes it so special (and black... and often very different to your pic)

Real deal! Hash in Afghanistan differs from village to village. Kinda like how in Germany each town seems to have their own brand of beer. Some is hard where as some are soft and pliable. So I been told.

These plastic-wrapped striped are oftenly mid to low grade stuff, and is better to be avoided when possible (still makes a ncie smoke when there's nothing else available). Go for the gardah and hand-press it yourself !

Interesting debate on the Afghan.

Lots of places sell Nepal Temple Balls. I'd expect them to be actually from Nepal, under that description, but in reality, most are probably made using the same method.

Would be nice to know for sure where everything comes from that you smoke, but I suppose the very nature of it all makes that impractical. Shame.

Thats a slab of whats doing the rounds at the moment, I find that the quality varies year on year depending on the harvest, last year was okay, but the year before was a lot better, but the price was a lot higher. Its now at 80 quid for a half oz, but two years ago it was more like a 100. Iv even had a bit of gold leaf on some of it. Like a lot of black hashes it is a really nice pine fragrance and is lovely and soft when warmed in the hands. I always love smoking an exotic hash because of the thought of where its come from in the world.
