Thanks bong and canna, you're both sweet, :) and I couldn't agree more, stoner chicks rock, and this forum has the best ladies I've ever met.

It is so beautiful today, and only seventeen days until I'm back in Amsterdam!

I had to share some scenes from my morning walk. I buy fresh milk from a milk-dispenser at the dairy farm 1 km up the mountain from me. It is my very favorite thing about being here.

Basjoe's g13 and Paradox's Pollem Hash

Being rolled on Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass". From my iphone.

Geeky tip: Gapie and I agree that pollem hashes totally work aces if they are thrown in your grinder to chop them up. Provided that they aren't so warm that they are sticky. Makes rolling so much quicker and easier than the hand-tear method.

Now, where were we? Ah yes, the perfect coda.

Ah, yes, 1e Hulp. I just exhaled a nice bong hit of SourD from Gapie, and the walked over the bud counter.

I looked at the menu, but honestly, after an afternoon t n t jag, nothing made an impression as I’m not sure I was capable of reading at that point. I meet the budtender’s pretty eyes and ask,

“So, the sour diesel is quite nice, is there anything you like better that you’d like to show me?”

Image
1e Hulp’s Buddha Cheese

“The Buddha cheese is all that I’ve been smoking lately, it’s that good.”

“Super! I will take a gram of that.” I said before he even got the bud out to show me, I was a really stoned monkey at that point as the Sour D was creeping in to my already mashed head.

“And, a latte for me, how about you Gapie, can I get you a drink?”

“Oh, I’m ok, thanks.” Demurred Gapie.

“Are you sure? You’ve been walking all over, let me get you something.” Gapie settled for a latte too, because I’m a pushy monkey.

The budtender handed me a beautiful bag of bud, and I took a seat at a comfy booth with Gapie across from the bar. Gapie packed a fresh bowl of sourD while I rolled a fat joint of the Buddha Cheese. The bud was absolutely beautiful, I’m sorry that I smoked that particular specimen before photographed it. (No self control, clearly.) It was frostier and more resinous than the April buds that I’m using to illustrate this picture. It smelled like havarti, grapes, lavender and thyme.

The first taste was a lovely balance of herbal violet and tangy cheese. The high was balanced, and a happy warmth instantly suffused my body. This strain is a favorite of mine, and this was one of the best examples I have had.

I offered a hit of the budtender, but he demurred. “I don’t smoke before 10pm or I would never get anything done.” He said sadly.

“I totally understand that. I would have to set that sort of rule for myself if I lived here too. Fortunately I’m on vacation.” With a wicked grin, I reached for the bong.

BTW beautiful picture.
James is the proprietor of Basjoe's, and that's a tough question. I think it's hard to make any european your best bud in the space of a vacation. For them, friendship takes longer to build. (James' warmth is a quiet one, I've known him for years now and our friendship has grown slowly.) I think sometimes people hear about how much some of us love James and expect him to be super outgoing and in-your-face friendly and are disappointed. They don't get it, real friendship takes time.

The good news is that you don't need to make him your best bud to get his best bud.

That's one of my favorite things about Basjoe's, and why I recommend it freely. Even the most obnoxious customers get James' best recommendation, the best bud in the bag, and get to enjoy the sunny relaxed vibe of the shop.

Image

How I would try to score some of the OG18 Pollinator, I'm not sure he's going to have on the menu until cup time.

1) If you're there multiple days, make it by Basjoe's early in your trip. James has a limited supply of this, and it tends to come and go. If you ask for it early though, and he can get his hands on it, he will try to keep it aside for your return.

2) Go in, grab some smoke and a coffee, and chill until he's not busy at the counter. When he has some down time, that's the time to pull up a stool. Mention you're from the Coffeeshop Directory, tell him you've heard amazing things about his OG18 Pollinator Hash from Amy, and ask if he might have some around for you. If he doesn't ask if he has some terminator.

Thanks for the nice words about the picture. Love photography, and it's fun to share some of my snaps.

I'll do an official write-up of the OG18 really soon. My camera only coughed up half the pictures from this trip before its lithium battery gave its last gasp. I've had to order a replacement (fucking alps) so I'm reporting on the things I have pictures of first.

More soon, my party peoples.

Running around like mad today, but more reporting soon, I promise.

My Mr. had an 8 hour layover in the 'dam on Monday morning.

Here's the list of the very best smokes that I saved for him, in order:

1) Basjoe's Cheese Joint
2) G-13 Joint from Basjoe
3) Bowls of OG 18 Pollinator from Basjoe
4) Super silver Haze (Bluebird) / so gouda (Voyager) joint
5) More Pollinator
6) G13 and Maroc Pollem (Paradox) joint
7) OG 18 joint from Voyagers slathered in terminator.

I wish I had had enough self control to save him some of the Bas Special from Saturday. That was super.

The Special Collection (he's going to be in Leiden this week, but working working so unable to get out to the shops.) Here's what I dropped off with my friend there for my Mr:

Solo's Nepalese Temple Ball Hash
Paradox's Maroc Wash Hash
Basjoe's Amnesia Haze, Bas Special, OG 18 Hash and Terminator
Bagheera's Kushdee
Bluebird's Candy Kush
Voyager's So Gouda and OG 18

So, those are my best-of lists, I guess.

Keep rolling party peoples!

Thanks ft, for the nice words. :)

It's sad that so many people read these travel threads without participating, sometimes it feels like I'm over here dancing around all by myself.

I was just looking through some of my picture files from trips-gone-by and I found a huge stash of unedited and unshared images. It's like I'm a huge pothead or something...

So, in memory of smokes gone by:

Image
Barney's Lounge Hawaiian Snow from July '09

Image
Basjoe's AK 47 from August '09

Image
Arjan's Ultra Haze, Greenhouse Lounge August '09

Image
Greenhouse Lounge's "OG Kush" from August '09
(No discernible relationship to any OG or Kush I've seen since, but a decent skunky weed none the less. Haven't made it by Greenhouse these last few trips and can't say that I miss it, but I do love the atmosphere at Greenhouse Lounge.)

What is the legal age in Europe? 18-19-21?

Legal for what? Drinking? 16 for wine and beer, 18 for spirits, but some of the large stores won't sell anything to those under 18.

When I moved here the legal age for prostitution was 16, but they raised it to 18 in I think January of 2010.

I'm fairly sure that there's no legal age for being the subject of a photograph...at least one where the subjects are probably attired!!

Great reporting and pictures too Geeky..keep up the good work!

I woke up with a wide smile on my face on Sunday morning. The light was just beginning to peek through the blinds as I immediately reached for my iphone to sign into skype, hoping to catch my husband before he went to sleep in the states. Next I reached for the last third of the kushdee and temple ball joint I had failed to finish the night before. Sweet limes, cloves, and spice filled my mouth and my head lightened as I felt a gently soaring lift. My iphone started buzzing at the same time, so I happily got to chatting with my Mr.

Image

An hour later I hung up because my Mr needed to get to sleep and I was suddenly ravenous, and I made short work of a banana and peanut butter while I rolled a joint of Basjoe's cheese. As I rolled the weed the most heavenly warm oily cheddar smell filled my nose. When I licked the joint closed I couldn't resist taking a huge smell, savoring the olive oil, cheddar, and rosemary aroma. The smoke didn't disappoint either, with an oily cheddar flavor and a peppery lightly skunky finish that lingered pleasantly. Happy, stoney, giggly, and energetic the delightful buzz had me writing away, occasionally snapping a few pictures. I smoked about half the joint before hunger drove me back to the kitchen where I devoured an apple with more peanut butter and some cheese.

I decided to head out to the grocery store, as I wanted to pick up food to make a proper lunch for my Mr on Monday. (He was going to be in town just long enough for an 8-hour layover. I had big plans for a smoke filled fun fest at the apartment. Roast Chicken. Joints. Naked Party. Yay.) I smoked the rest of the cheese joint as I got ready, and headed down the stairs. Walked half a block before I realized I forgot my wallet, turned around, headed back. Got my wallet. Walked half a block before I realized that I forgot to put cash in my wallet, turned around, up the stairs again. Got my money. Walked half a block before I realized I really wanted coffee. Detoured to Solo. Decided to get 5 gs of the Temple Ball hash before I told everyone about it later that day.

Image

Met the delightful fair-haired lady budtender, who made me a little emergency pack of papers and filters that came in handy later. Just before I ordered my coffee, I realized that I'd rather smoke weed than hash, but nothing on Solo's menu caught my eye. I decided to head to the grocery store and then smoke and make coffee at the apartment, but then I got a little lost and ended up in front of Bluebird. This was a place I had been meaning to get to for awhile, and it just seemed to serendipitous to pass up an opportunity to check it out.

The cafe counter is upstairs, and the dealer area is actually back out of view just to the side of the drinks bar. They have samples of all the weeds in a binder, and had a good selection of gear. The male budtender was really friendly.

"I'm a little hazed out, what do you have that's stoney?"

"Not much, unfortunately, everyone seems to be growing haze haze haze right now." He looked a little bummed. "The Candy Kush is good though."

"What about stoney hashes?"

"Not much there, hold on." He turned to head back into the dealer room.

"Oh, also, I'd like to see whichever you like better- the silver haze or super silver haze."

Image
iPhone shot of Bluebird's Super Silver Haze

He came out of the room and set three beautiful freshly-packed open bags in front of me. Handing me one, I took a big smell. Lovely blueberry skunky funky aroma filled my senses.

"That's the Blue Cheese, it's a little stoney, nice right now, and really popular" he said.

"Yum." He handed me the Candy Kush. The smell was unbelievable-- chocolate, toffee, cherries, but dark dank and decidedly unsweet smelling.

"That, though, is even better right now." He said. I agreed, and said I would take it. He picked up the other two to put them away, which I thought was lovely and unpresuming. "Wait, I'd like to see the super silver haze too." He handed me the bag, which contained one beautiful bud which smelled enticingly of sour grape candy with a more subtly haze perfume. I ended up buying a 5e plastic grinder and nice 5e glass hash pipe there as well as a good coffee and fresh-squeezed juice. I sat down at the counter, overlooking the street, enjoying the stream of passerby as I rolled the super-silver haze.

Sticky with resin but perfectly cured it made a lovely fat joint. I was surprised to find the flavor tart and limey, as the smell really had me expecting grape. A bit mouth-puckering and lovely with a lingering haze flavor. The high was strongly elevating and hit with a stomach-churning intensity. This weed had some serious thc content to it, and a bright silvery visual component. Not for people who are tweaked out by racy weeds because this one actually elevated my heart rate both times I smoked it. I only smoked half the joint before I realized that I didn't have time to go grocery shopping before I had to get to Voyager's for the 12:00 crawl, so I relaxed until it was time to fly off for the next adventure.
