How long does it take to walk around?

Post by Styl Eli »

As for an example lets just say from the Train station to Mellow Yellow.

I ask this because I'm trying to book a hotel and don't want to be to far from everything.

I like to walk but not at 2 in the morning stoned and tipsy. lol

Google Maps is a good resource to walking directions anywhere in the Dam. Trams cost 2.60 for a single ride. You can read more about public transport at http://www.gvb.nl Taxis are metered and just about anywhere in the Centrum will cost about 10 euro.

Peace

Also, for the trams- if you are a repeat visitor you should just spring for a tram card "O V Chipkaart" (In the orange machines) at the train station you can buy a tram card for 7.50e, and put money on it, start with 10e. Then you pay by distance for your rides, so you can jump on and off. The cards last indefinitely, and the money doesn't go away if you don't spend it, so then you just keep it in your wallet.

Then, individual rides cost around .90c on average.

The anonymous OV chip cards are good for 5 years and can be reloaded. If you don't want to keep it, you can buy a disposable chip card for anywhere from 1 to 7 days and ranging from 7 euros to 30 euros - good for buses (including night buses), trams, and the metro. Cheapest bike rental I've seen is Mac Bike for 4,40 euros per day (foot brake, no insurance). Walking is fine, but depending how much territory you plan on covering, you'll get tired quick.

Dont forget to check in and check out with the OV chip card, (swipe it when you get on and off you will see everyone doing it)

@Styl eil!

If you look at the map of centrum, its only 2kms from south to north! (central to Heini museum) if you never been once you get there youll see how compact the whole city (centrum) is! walking from one end to the other is about 20minutes if you lazy its cant talk 1hour ;) taking a taxi from central to heini cost you about 4euro tram (many , most end up near the heini) is more or less 2euro like others siad you can get a Tram/bus pass for either 1-2-3-4 day or even a weekly pass from 7euro to more or less 30euro ;)
dont forget to visite Vondel park < stay away from there at night crazies come out and you may see fairy ppl ;)
