Easiest way to grow?
Re: Easiest way to grow?
Thanks dan, been doing some reading last night on lighting and it does seem like the b&q idea is a no go as they are not powerfull enough and certainly not suited to growing cannabis plants. Well unless we want to make more work for ourselfs by running several 20 watt bulbs moving them daily lol.
So going to start hunting down a 150 watt cfl later. By the way, might sound a stupid question but is there any reason why we cant foil line the growing area to make maximum use of all available light, reflectiveness etc?. As not really noticed anything much on using foil for light reflection yet I'd have thought it ideal?.
And any suggestions on oudor suppression?. A dealer informed me he used to use a load of open trays of cheap coffee and a load of gel based air fresheners many years ago?.

Re: Easiest way to grow?
Never ever use tin foil your line your space, it will reflect the light and heat poorly and end up leaving you with burnt spots all over your lady..
Either use mylar(anti-protection) or just paint it white for good results.
You may be able to get away with no extraction but results won't be as good. even a bathroom extractor hooked up to some flexi ducting would help shift the dirty air.
A pic of the setup would help identify your problems and any ideas that could help you...

Re: Easiest way to grow?
Thanks again for that dan. I'm going to m8's to try are sort the space out at the weekend hopefully. Size wise the cupboard is about 2.5ft wide, 6ft long and about 9ft tall. But m8 has suggested enclosing the growing space down to as small as is viable for the single plant to maximise all the light on the plant otherwise the space and light will be wasted and higher wattage will eventually be needed due to a bigger than needed open space. But will have to wait and see what materials we have to work with to build a kind of grow box\enclosure at the weekend.
Re: Easiest way to grow?
By the way, with reguards to a reflector for the growing area and not being able to use foil for the reasons stated above. I've come by a few car window protectors\reflectors and they have a silver reflective side. Any chance they would make a useable reflective material for the growing area?.
Re: Easiest way to grow?
you wud be better having it just white.
mylar is used for anti protection, but also reflects the light. you can use them silver things if you want but i'd rather have it plain white tbh m8.

even more perfect
You'll only wish you spent the extra £20 or so. Are MAxibright ballasts any good?

Little bit better result with the higher output cfl lamp..

Extraction for such a small box (if you reduce the size) would be fine with this kind of kit.
Timer and relay/contactor if required for around £20.
Total hardware costs less than an oz of some of the crap bouncing around here.

Here's some inspiration for what can be done on a micro sized grow, I think he's done a pretty awesome job: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=207991
Something I will add is dont cut corners buy the proper equipment first time as you'll save money in the long run as soon you get the growing bug you'll just replace all the cheap shit you've brought with better equipment, if it's seeds you're worried about give me a shout I have plenty of seeds I can give you, even feminised.

Yeah I like his grows, he does some great things - it's you thats grown some of their genetics isn't it? I'm thinking of trying a couple of things in the future, love that they do 3 packs, perfect for just growing from seed.

Re: Easiest way to grow?
Yeah mate done a few from Sweet Seeds , well worth a bash never had any issues with them excellent germ rates seem to be good yielders and very pretty looking plants , my mates doing a couple Sweet Seeds at the mo check my Topped & Trimmed

Re: Easiest way to grow?
Thanks again for the posts and advice guys. It would be so easy to cut corners etc but I still need to find a balance that will work or not really cost me to much if it's not for me (unlikely) or feel the risk is to much to cope with (possable). As said both of us have never grown before so we are bound to be a little cautious of the risks of detection etc. Thus we feel budget & detection wise low heat CFL is the way to go for now as we only want to work on a single plant at a time. Which if reading info is correct wont be to bad a thing if any of the current seeds turn out to be male as I'm sure I read we can still use the plant for hash etc?.
Our current concern for now is just the CFL bulb\bulbs and the wattage rating. Everyone here seems to suggest as high a wattage as possable is better yet other places seem to suggest lower wattage lights will work ok if it is a single plant in as small a space as possable, like in the link above?. So if like in the link above we operate a growing box (will be home made probably) a littler bigger than that can we get away with lower wattage CFL?. I'm not suggesting I want to be told "yeah a couple of 22 watt house CFL's will do" because I know with my limited reading thats never going to happen. But would we be ok with say a 125 watt duel spectrum light or would seperate red & blue lights with a lower wattage be just as good?.
But our main concern is oudor release as simply put we have little clue as to how much oudor a single plant will give off if grown in a grow box\tent in a cubpoard or grown semi coverd in even a loft?. I keep reading about carbon filtering etc but cost reasons means we dont want to do this for the time being untill we get the hang of things and move up a little. Then again we wont know our final innitial setup untill it's setup lol. I was hoping the cheap oudor neutralizers (the liquid ones and NOT the silly spray or plugin ones) will work along side a stack of cheap gell based air freshners cos I can get tons of gel air freshners for nothing.

Males can't be smoked, only good for breeding.
The one Dan linked to looks like a good deal to me if cfl is the way you're thinking of going, you wont get much cheaper either.
If you dont want to go down the carbon filter route then get a ona block, personally I'd get a fan/carbon filter as the air needs to be moved/exchanged stagnant air is no good for your plant, you'll need a desk fan as well, I find the 6" clip on ones are great.

Re: Easiest way to grow?
Possably got an offer of an unwanted CFL reflector so would only really need the bulb. Will be easy to get a fan of cause as even got a spare here somewhere. Been looking at the ona blocks earlyer and possably go with them.Boner wrote:Males can't be smoked, only good for breeding.

Re: Easiest way to grow?
make sure the bulb is gonna fit first. not sure if different wattage bulbs will fill in any reflector, remember that cfl don't have ballests so just make sure that you can get the right bulb in there.
the one i posted up was perfect, both spectrums. this stuff don't come cheap, brand new bulb with many hours of growin!!
you can buy them ironizor things that get rid of bad smells!
otherwise you can spend a bomb on ambi-pure lol
