Jerelo's here...

Hi all,
I'm a new member, picking up on this interesting helpful forum as I prepare for a trip to Amsterdam in two weeks, from Sept 29 to Oct 7. I'm a 53 year old guy with an adventurous and liberated spirit
. I see the toke and talk connections, and would love to connect with people there to explore the cafes and experience various strains.
When I get to Amsterdam, the idea of connecting with others over a toke and coffee, sharing stories and exploring places like cafes, neighborhoods and art, is definitely my idea of fun. If that interests you, I hope you'll contact me and we'll set something up.
On my last travel journey I went to the Himalayas, and got myself up into the Parvati Valley, like Kasol. That place, like Amsterdam, also has a friendly open attitude to smoking ganga - in fact, marijuana just grows freely along the paths and rivers. Now I think I'm visiting Amsterdam because I imagine it as a place where marijuana is fine, and connoisseurs enjoy the best of this plant, without hiding or shame. That's the myth anyway, and it'll be interesting to see the reality.
I'm a low cost traveller (for more fun time), so would also be interested in finding an economical place to hang out. Any other solo travellers that want to share the rent of a room in a peaceful respectful way? Or maybe even I'll learn about a home with a room for a traveler. I'd be open to offering a room in my home (on Vancouver Island, BC) if you'd like to trade.
Ok, I hope that's a brief hi ho with my vitals and interests. Looking forward to chats.

Check airbnb.com or wimdu.com if you're looking to rent a room in someone's home/apartment.

Welcome to the forum.
You have been posted on the September and October
Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town during your stay.
Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.
There are several planned during your visit.
By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.
https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/membe ... le&u=70415
I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.
You can do a little practice shopping on the
Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.
Enjoy

Thanks all for the welcoming responses.
DazedandConfusedinOR thanks for the good sites for commercial b&bs, I checked them out, and found the ones in my price range are already booked. Suddenly feeling rushed to book. In the past I've had good results by winging it, meeting other travellers and hooking up for a room, or finding a place by walking neighborhoods. In Asia, meeting a local and staying over was also quite easy. But in Amsterdam I'm getting the feeling I should reserve in advance.
Willjay that's the first time I'm identified as old timer - it's all relative! Do you find there are places (like cafes) that are more frequented by COOTS? I'm very open minded and like people of all ages, but maybe my chances of connecting with others would be more likely in some spots. It's true that binge drinking and party party party energy leaves me bored. I'm much more interested in conversation, exploring the city, and talking about fabulous travels.
burghclash yes I have travelled widely, but never yet to Amsterdam - suddenly I'm realizing this place will be fun but has a high minimum cost once there... Partly I'm concerned about the threat of a clampdown on marijuana and wanted to visit before the scene gets shut down. A friend described it as the San Francisco of Europe. As I learn about the city, it seems hard to get a fix on its character. Its as if there are many little isolated bubbles of community (cafe, gay, red light) and then a larger surrounding community that seems kind of indistinct at this point.
flybynight thanks for posting my visit - I see two t&t but since I don't yet know my preferred cafes, can't offer a night. I'll connect with others and post one when I have a plan.

I have found that the atmosphere is more laid back during the day and especially in the morning. The rest of the time I just listen to the music coming out of the shop. Getting out of the center of Amsterdam and into the neighborhoods you will find a more relaxed atmosphere and better deals. Or you could just go to Basjoe's

Thanks for the welcoming invite. I'm planning to come meet at the Oct 5 TnT at 1e Hulp. By the way, do you just ask around for the TnT when you get to the cafe, or is there some way I'll be able to spot you and the event?

Good opportunity for my T&T bit.
Toke & Talks
As I see it a Toke and Talk is a win, win, win situation.
1. Nobody shows up. You have spent an hour in a coffeeshop of
your choice.
This goes in my win column.
2. One or more people show up. You meet some new friends in a great atmosphere.
Yep, another win.
3. Everyone in town shows up and it turns into a coffeeshop crawl.
This might be the biggest win of all.
To ID yourself something as simple as a rolling paper with your user name
written on it and stuck to the front of your shirt/coat will work.As an after
thought, stuck to you forehead would really work.
A printed ACD map on the table or bar can be a real giveaway.
Enjoy

Linking up should not be a problem. Look for the small aqua blue table placard that reads ACD Nimrod.
Hope to see you, and others, there.
