Neighborhood Advice Needed Please

Post by Lunchbox »

I posted this in the Hotels section, but thought here would be a good place as well.
I'm looking to rent an apartment right across the canal from The Doors. Does anyone have any feedback about this location? Very busy? Touristy? Noisy? Any help would be appreciated. Looks like there will be a lot of CS's around the area, but not only looking for proximity. Want a nice 'hood to call home for a bit...

Thanks

I'm guessing this is your first trip? The answer to your question really depends on the time of year you go. I wouldnt describe Amsterdam anywhere with those words. I've only been once and it was off season. Just book it if that's the coffeeshop you want. I offer you a money back gurentee you'll enjoy yourself.

its worth remebering that pretty much everywhere on the centre map is walking distance. (north to south on the map is do-able in 30 mins on foot, alot less on bike)... thus anywhere up that end you mention is gonna be touristy.

as a rule of thumb the jordaan area is quiter and classier, the red light area is party tourists, and the damrak/dam square is heaving with rubbish tourists who cant get off the main road.

basically that area will be touristy yes, but not as loud as warmoestraat/rld.

Thanks peeps. Actually, I've been to Amsterdam a bunch. Lived there (although I was in elementary school) for a year. Also went to ninth grade outside of the Hague. I was doing stuff in ninth grade that my buddies in the states had never even heard of...
However, my wife and I are going and want a nice place to camp out for a week.
