12th - 16th of January ALONE

Post by christallmma »

Hello all, I hope you are all well and in good spirits.

I'm new to joining but certainly not new to this beautiful website :)

I shall be marking my 5th venture to the Dam on the 12th of January for 4 nightsn and this time I shall be travelling alone.

I have never gone solo and I'm rather looking forward to it, 2 of my trips have been rather hampered by 1 : going with a girlfriend at the time... That was a drag and 2 : going with piss heads and not stoners.

I would love to hear feedback on peoples thoughts on going solo and there experiences

I would love to know about the meet ups I hear so much about, as I'm a very social guy and would love to toke and talk to some of you friendly folks.

And any feedback on thoughts of the Dam in the cold month of January.

I give thanks for your time.

Been to the Dam 4 times next trip 12th - 16th of January

Someone else asked the same thing not too long ago, as I said to him, when you are alone you can choose either to be sociable and meet lots of new people, or you can chill on your own just as easily. I prefer going alone so I can have space and time to myself, the ability to explore at my own pace and to be able to make snap decisions about what to do next without any other people to consult with. Feels a bit strange at first, but it becomes normal after a few hours. Have a great trip!

Hey, feeling great after booking few days solo out there in couple of weeks :D

First couple of times I went was with friend each time, then the next 3/4? or so on my own and last time 6 of us rented and apartment.

Friends who I went with were all moderate to heavy stoners (apart from 1 when there were six of us, but she was pretty cool with all the smoking, not that she had much choice with us bunch :) ).

I've never found it a problem going over on my own, in fact in some respects prefer it, I find I end up meeting many more people as you're forced to make an effort rather than relying on a trusty ole friend to hang out with.

Only just signed up here before heading out on my own last time, so never really managed to meet up for a toke n talk with anyone last time myself. But, whether I'm at the hostel I stay at that's got a fairly busy bar/smoking area, or just wandering around the coffeshops I've always found several friendly stoned faces around doing the same.

Sure you'll have a blast!

Last year was my 6th annual trip but my first trip NON solo. It was NEVER a challenge to have a BLAST alone, maybe you want to search the forums for my 'Hajj' postings?

Setting up T&T's, or responding to ones others setup is a great way to meet other folks from the forum. I did some of this, not too much, but I met some great people.

I have always been staying at the same hotel, I love it there, its like a home away from home, so I have also made many friends with the staff.

I have also found people in general to be very approachable by a person traveling alone.

The closest trip I made to AMS was in February and the weather was much like my home town of New York ... pretty cold. To be honest, I like warmer weather so now I usually go in May.

I think it's pretty easy to have a great time in AMS alone, good luck!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and reply to my thread.

I have spent the last week just reading peoples travel logs :) I love a well written travel report, and I fully intend to do a high quality onee of my own.

I will of course be replying and posting for Toke and Talk hook ups, and if I feel like staying longer then I will.

I am thinking of just booking into a shared dorm at a hostel, but I'm worried about sharing with randoms, I assume I will have my own key. I tend to go out and come back around 2-3am, and I don't want to be the resident " twat " who wakes everyone coming in walking on the clouds! But I'm highly sociable and the cost side is just so appealing and would mean I could stay even longer and have a budget of 200 euros a day for a full week! And that is plenty.

I would highly recommend you consider a dorm room at the Bulldog Hotel and Hostel. You will get your own key and your own locker. I found roommates to be very friendly and yet non intrusive. I only sleep and shower in my room anyway. The Bulldog has a great bar, a great lounge, a very nice breakfast and is very centrally located. Best of all, their staff is FANTASTIC. It's around 30E a night. Good luck.

Ed thank you klndly for your words of wisdom, I checked out the website and was impressed. So much so I have now booked in for 6 nights and that price hits the spot nicely.

I've always been anti Bulldog due to its tourist trap nature, but as a sleeping hole with a bar at 30 euros a night I'm willing to look past there money grabbing nature.

Thanks

Good luck. Like I said, I have had 1100% positive experience with the Bulldog hotel, I also do ok at the Energy Shop next door in a pinch, though I score most of my cannabis elsewhere.

Out of the 20 something times I have been to Amsterdam/De Nederlands. I have only been twice with friends. First time was a blast :D , Second time was a nightmare :x (we are no longer friends) anyway that is another story. Eversince I have travelled solo, with no regrets. I find it easy to socilize and at the same time I am happy enough with my own company. Also a plus for me is that I have dutch relations living in the north, so my two week holiday is broken up with a weeks visit.
May I make a sugestion. If you are planning on eating out in restaurants, I'd make a prior booking just to be safe. It seems odd but as with groups, solo travellers can come unstuck if you wanna eat alone. Anyway have a great trip. I am so jealous, because I have to wait untill April 27th.

P.s feel free to pm me if you have any questions regarding Amsterdam.
Next trip 1st August 2015. 2 weeks camping/putting my feet up.

You have been posted on the January Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/membe ... le&u=74318

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

GREAT! :!: I have a thread on the forum somewhere about your point. 1st, I think perhaps there is a distinction between Bulldog Hotel and the other Bulldog establishments in that at the hotel, much less of their business traffic is public. Yes it is a hostel and some walk in business exists but, a majority of their business is booked in advance on-line.

At the Bulldog Hotel, what you give is what you get back. By this I mean, when I am polite, patient and courteous to the staff they are the same in return. Befriending them, I have come to understand the issue from their perspective. It can be very challenging to manage the multicultural clientele that frequents their establishment, particularly when 90% of them are stoned all day. Somehow, they make it work very well and there is always a beautiful parade of stoners to watch and mingle with. Hopefully you will meet Sandra at the front desk, she is a gem among women. When you check in, you'll get the standard credit card room key and a hotel building pass card. Security and/or Front Desk personnel are supposed to ensure that only guests enter the building. Just having your hotel building pass card ready when you come into the hotel will get you on the good guest list. I have thoroughly enjoyed making it onto the list, I hope!

PS - If you like strong beer, 8.5% LaChouffe on tap @ the hotel bar, look for happy hour specials.
PSS - Please roast one in my honor January 13 when I turn  51 :D
