I've been taking tons of pictures during my trip to the 24th annual Cannabis Cup - this event is so much fun!. My favorite are the handheld microscope shots of the buds up close... I figured I'd use this thread to post about the cannabis varieties in the contest. Maybe others can join in, all photos welcome - there are so many samples to try and not enough time. What are the hot looking weeds and hashes this year?
This is a Celestron USB microscope, not sure the model. You can remove the USB piece and use it as a portable too, so it's nice. The microscope is supposed to do 50-200x; I'm assuming those are the magnifications for the pics.
I'm taking tons of pictures. I don't want to clog the thread up with too much, so here are links to the photobucket pages if that is OK here. I'll try to keep updating as I go. By the end of the day I'm usually pretty stoned and slow, ha...
Awards ceremony starts in about an hour.. Here are my predictions for the winners on the Best Cannabis this year:
First: Hawaiian Snow
Second: Liberty Haze
Third: Kosher Kush
Hawaiian Snow was the most heavily promoted; even B-Real of Cypress Hill inserted it into his song. Everyone at the show knows this strain, and indeed it is very good. I suspect sheer market awareness will make this #1.
Liberty Haze was Barney's entry. This too was heavily promoted, and (as expected) a very quality entry from Barney's. Personally, I liked Tangerine Dream a bit better, but we all have our favorites. This was very nice; great smell to it as well. I really like that.
Kosher Kush was a DNA Genetics strain, available at Voyagers, a much lesser known coffeeshop. This weed was honestly our favorite. Out of the three people in our group that came together, we all liked this best, and came to that conclusion on our own. The buds were VERY dense and tight; heavily crystalized, with a pungent flavor and smooth taste. DNA promoted it a bit as well, but it had much less exposure overall. If this takes any place I think it will truly be on its merits.
Aside from these three, my other favorites were Katsu's Candy Kush and Grey Area's Liberty Enlightened. These were also very nice entries and worthy of mention. The rests of the weeds we sampled were also top notch, as you'd expect for cannabis cup entries. If I were able to come back though, I'd pick among the above...
1st Place: Liberty Haze (Barney's)
2nd Place: Hawaiian Snow (Greenhouse)
3rd Place: Buddha Tahoe OG (Green Place)
What a great event. I've been to Amsterdam 8 times now, but this was my first cup. I can honestly say it was money was well spent. I am definitely going to try to attend this event again in the future. If you've been debating it; just book the trip next year. You will not be sorry.
Great show HighTimes, thank you! ... and thank you to Barney's...Greenhouse... and all the coffeeshops and seed companies that made this an unforgettable week of world class cannabis...
