A glimpse into the past

Post by SmellyJK »

Here's a little video I found about Amsterdams coffee shop culture, filmed in the early 90's.

It looks at the attitudes of various people towards cannabis and coffee shops, and follows a Scottish tourist as he visits various smoke spots through out the Red Light District. Some of our American friends may struggle with the accent, but it's an interesting watch none the less.

Is it just me or does the blond haired woman with big round glasses sound like the bud/bartender at 420?

It's called 'Amsterdam By Night' and was put of Channel 4's cannabis night in the mid 90's. There have been threads about it a couple of times here on ACD. The presenter is a stand up comedian, quite a funny guy. The coffeeshop largely featured in the first half is Lucky Mothers. It use to be on Keizersgracht but shut down in the late 90's and became coffeeshop Het Kruydenhuys before it closed down completely. It just looks like office space now. A shame as it was very unique and a favourite of mine.
