Re: Tropical grow room questions.
A carbon filter/extractor fan to get rid of the smell and help control the humidity/temps is the key in whatever sized grow you have be it a room or a tent, having the window open is just an open invitation for bugs/pests, dont forget the light will be like a beacon as well, you'd be better off building a room within the room imo, you can grow autos with anything as they will flower under any light cycle.
I suggest you either buy or download a grow book (I linked to a pdf file for the grow bible some time back, if the links are dead in that then it will more than likely be available on a torrent site) as well.

Hey there Treetop
Read your thread and sounds like dry heat situation which is nowhere as bad a high heat (28 to 32) / high humidity (75 to 85%) situation. Solution : Get A/C..split type is better. You will have no probs controlling temps. This may lead to a lowering of RH (A/C and lights together) so you'd need a humidifier. Depending on the size of your room maybe you can work with 2 or 3 of these (and I don't mean those big ass ones..just buy those small ones which are really cheap nowadays..the ones that make a cool mist..not a hot steamy mist...and refill once a day).
You're probably thinking "what the hell..is he crazy or what...what about the electricity bill?!?!" but if temps are a problem then you either use your 'tropical' environment and grow outdoors OR you pretty much need A/C. Just PM me for more specifics on this and the rest.

That grow guide looks alright (I only had a quick glance).
Now lighting, MH (metal halide) are the best for vegging and HPS for flowering but HPS are alright for vegging as well, dont waste your money on regular shop bought lights they dont have the lumens to flower your plants very well, an example if cfl's growing specific ones can go up to 300 watts, LED's are coming on leaps & bounds but I'm still to see enough evidence that they're a good alternative to HPS, a grow specific LED will cost about a grand (guesstimate), the cheap chinese made panels (£20-50) are shite, electric cost wise the LED's are the best, apart from that you need to look what the lamps cost to run, I think you look to see how many kilowatts it is then find out how much you're paying per kilowatt and do the maths.

Looking at the size of the room CFL lights and Led's are going to be a waste of money and effort. You will lose too much useable light if you are unable to box it off and reflect it back.
HPS would definately be the way to go but you will find that your window will, as mentioned in a previous post, light up the back yard and bring unwanted attention. With you mentioning lots of strong smelling plants and air deodorizers etc to mask the smell I take it you have neighbours or regular visitors..... at this point I'll draw your attention back to the light billowing out of that back window
With the window open the strong smell of your plants will also be escaping out of here..... think of the neighbours... or even just passers by..
You will be suprised at the smell of some of the Auto's in flower.
A tent maybe could be an option if you are ok to shell out on some A/C. Cool the air in the bedroom with the ac, pump the cooled air into a tent and out through some proper extraction and filter.
I think I've read somewhere the plants will stop doing much apart from perspiring above the 32-34 temps. Please somebody correct this if I read wrong.
I dont think anyone answered your question about the halogen lamps... They are a definate no..
Have you read through some of the grow reports on here? There's some cracking ones that will probably answer a lot of your questions.
Here's a couple of acd's memorable ones to sink your teeth into.
Hope the original posters don't mind the links

If you dont want smelly plants stay away from the LSD and the blue cheese !
Re: Tropical grow room questions.
open window? MH/HPS lighting? Do you realize how bright they are? Your neighbors will see...from way down the street! Not to mention that if your odor control doesn't work, the smell will be drifting right out that window...
Be careful!
Why not do a 4x4 grow tent or something? You can go to all the trouble to hang lights, add air purifiers and all that, but you can't put up a tent or essentially just build a box to enclose everything? I am always curious as to the reasons behind why people insist they have to do things a certain way..

Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

Re: Tropical grow room questions.
Regular shop bought cfl's wont do the job, they dont push out enough lumens no matter how many you use, seriously with the amount of trouble you will have to go to it wont be worth the time, effort and risk for such small reward, sorry to be so negative as I'd love everyone who smokes to grow their own I just dont see it as very viable for you.

Re: Tropical grow room questions.
Unless you use the proper equipment , extractor fan , grow tent etc . Is there no option for an outdoor grow ? The sun will do your autos far better than any lights , also with the autos you won't have to wait for the days shortening
As for household CFLs I think you will find that they do push out enough lumens to grow (you know this Boner , you read icmag) BUT they're more suitable for small cabinet grows etc and certainly wouldnt be enough for a Decent size groom

From my experiance of trying they didn't work for shit, I had a couple of hundred watts over 1 plant and grew enough for a joint.Cisco wrote:As for household CFLs I think you will find that they do push out enough lumens to grow (you know this Boner , you read icmag) BUT they're more suitable for small cabinet grows etc and certainly wouldnt be enough for a Decent size groom

All I can say to that is check the micro grow section , there are peeps pushing out reasonable yields with household cfl so the proof is there
