Lol...that's the equivalent of almost $670!! Our largest bill in circulation is a $100 (yeah, there's larger one's but they've been taken out of circulation). You'd get some odd looks here paying for a coffee with even a $100 bill here. I can't imagine many places taking a 500 euro note.

On perhaps my most memorable 'Dam trip I found a €500 note just lying in the street!

It was the alley next to Grand Hotel Kras where their car park entrance is (Sint Jansstraat?) and I was staggering back to Warmoestraat from the RLD. There were what looked like a crack-ho and her pimp hanging round suspiciously by the car park entrance and at first I thought I might get mugged as the street was quite quiet even though it was daytime. I hurried past with my head down expecting a whack on the back of it then saw a purple piece of paper fluttering on the ground. Only one end was fluttering and the other looked like it was stuck to the ground; I half expected to try to lift it and it would be stuck, then I would either get whacked or accosted by a laughing Dutch "Candid Camera" crew! Picked it up OK and stuffed it in my pocket, walking very quickly back to my hotel convinced I would not make it back but I did and unfolded and examined it and it seemed very crisp, fresh, new and most importantly, genuine!

I went to Nes that night to get it checked under their note-reader but it wasn't working so I had to wait until the next day and did it at the hotel where they confirmed it was genuine. I went to break it down at a change place and couldn't find one where they didn't charge €5 for the privilege which fucked me off a bit but I ended up €495 richer which paid for my holiday!

I can only imagine it was pulled from a big wad by some gangster/dealer/Grand Hotel Kras garage user and dropped and I have dined out on this story for a couple of years now! For those who understandably think it a little far-fetched it can be verified by DC.

So I for one am very sad to see the gangsters' note of choice disappear but it was hard to shift even two years ago.

I've been waiting for the person, who picked up my cash to mention this. Now I know where to find you, I will expect you will pay me back in full. I want the full 500 euro back too, I won't pay for your fees.

My name isn't "Mate", my name is xxxcronicxxx plus i ait being aggressive i'm just telling the truth & i was having a joke with Puffthemagicdragon.
So you stay out of it & shut the fuck up smeetiva, why don't people like you just continue with contributing to the original thread as other have done & are doing, instead of focusing on side issue's that don't concern you. Move on as other's as well as myself have & are doing.
I joined & have been contributing to this forum since Jan' 2009 , you Smeetiva mate joined this forum this year Jan' 2011, meaning you found me here so you can't really tell me nothing until you have been on here adding info as long as i have. Before now i have never had any problems with anyone, just read my post's and you shall see that i have the most manners & respect when dealing with people who show manner's & respect when dealing with me.
I have added much useful information on the boards that is enlightening to many & have much more very useful information that i can add, so Smeetiva mate be careful who you are telling to quieten down.
I don't know what you heard about me, but i do know that you are slyly trying to attack me (as i reed in between the lines), but jah knows & anyone with any sense & respects truth can see & know.
what you have said is a load of bollocks, you just remind me of someone's nagging bitch wife who wants to per-long an argument instead of letting it go & moving on.

This thread should be closed and deleted, it is adding nothing to this forum except a heightened level of aggression and tempers.

I don't have a horse in this race so I don't really care, but I will say no one is forcing you to read this. If you don't like the tone or aggressive nature of this post just don't read it. It's really that simple, isn't it?

I read somewhere that it is considered polite to have exact change in Holland. It also negates the chance of being ripped off completely. Always carry a lot of change. FEBO is a good place to get it. They think you are going to use it to buy their crap :o sometimes I even do!

If you're totally bombed or look like you are, then there will be unscrupulous people willing to take advantage of you. Paying with exact change is a good idea if you happen to have it. I always say what I'm giving them. If my bill is 12 euros and I give them a 20, I say out loud "out of 20." No confusion then.
