DELAYED-14th-19th JULY!!! EXTREMA 2011

Ok, so ive been out of action and in the land of the working for far too long. I intended to upload this ages ago and have just found it on my laptop, if anyone is interested im doing a new trip report for my upcoming trip in Jan. For now have a read, or dont. Up to you......
NB- Excuse the tailing off towards the end, reading it back i seem to have been more and more under the influence as the story progressed!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, well here goes...... A slightly delayed trip report because, im not going to lie, i’ve been suffering badly with PAB (Post Amsterdam Blues). You too may be a sufferer if you have recently returned from a break in this amazing city. Symptoms include hating everyone and everything in your native country for at least 2 days following landing, an illusion that you will find weed just as good back home (you won’t!), a desire for all baked goods that you didn’t have before you left, and a general feeling that you should not be back home, you should be in Amsterdam......Forever.
Bit of background on me- I smoked a lot at uni for 5 years. I would smoke weed every day except days i couldn’t source any, which didn’t happen very often! Since finishing 2 years ago I haven’t smoked much at all. Last joint pre trp was 2/3 months ago and before that when I was in Amsterdam at New Years. My travel mate is a friend from uni and we both would blaze all day, everyday skipping as much of uni as we could so as not to fail, but as little so that we could play Playstation and watch TV most of the time!! Unfortunately now we both have good jobs our fun is restricted to holidays only.
Well, the 14th-19th was, if my hazy memory serves me well, my 4th trip in 18 months. I was beyond excited and think i began a countdown at 30 days (yes, i am sad!). So, shorts, t shirts and sun cream packed 2 days before departure I was all geared up for a 5 day break. Plans were to meet my friend, who celebrated his birthday on the 14th, at Schipol Airport as I flew from Liverpool and he Norwich,, take the “longest train journey in the world” into the city and get blazed aiming to be in De Kroon by 9.30am.
Day 1-
Easyjet decided to spoil my plans as when we boarded the flight at 6.20am it was announced that “due to the shit weather in Amsterdam today and for you whole trip, the pilot has decided to mess with everyone’s intention of getting a wake and bake and will be sitting on the runway for the next 2 hours” EPIC!
By 11am I had met my friend, taken the train, walked from the station and made it to our traditional first stop....
De Kroon. Here we purchased Chocolope and 2 Looza’s from the same budtender that never seems to leave, or smile for that matter. Due to my injury (a dog bit the end of my finger off)my mate would be rolling for the trip, he skinned up and the first toke really hit the spot. Chilled music, good weed, im in Amsterdam!!!! We finished the joint; the cat then appeared, sat on my bag for a while then decided to fuck off. We took note and did the same.
Next onto pancakes for a quick fill. Went to our usual stop, forget the name, just round the corner from De Kroon. The lady recognised us and was the first friendly face we’d seen since landing. I was pretty high by now, having not had a joint for a few months, and being so off my face so quickly decided the menu was too much hassle to read so opted for what my friend ordered. I made a wrong choice, pancakes with Cheese and Bacon- far too cheesy, sloppy and sickly. Still, the coffee sorted me out, now to check in.
Made it to our hotel, Die Port Van Cleve, which we stayed in last year. The room this time was pretty poor, small and not that clean, but we were only staying the one night and I planned on passing out in a stoned stupor so didn’t care!
Purchased some Silver Haze from The Doors. Really strong smell and proper battered by now! Like The Doors coffeeshop, took the obligatory picture of the door and left.
Onto Abraxus for Amnesia Lemon, nice smoke and feeling real high by now.
Headed to La Grotte Coffeeshop for Toastie’s which were just as good as I remembered. The staff here are real friendly and the food is great and even better followed by a joint!
Spent the rest of the day having a walk about the city in the rain. My sense of direction is terrible and i still cannot find my way around the place, luckily for my my friend is Mr MapMan and has the ability to know where he is at all times- better not loose him!!! As you can immagine, having been out of practice smoking the rest of the day was a bit of a blur, we made it to Redlight Coffeeshop for Black Cheese which went down well. I had quite possibly THE best steak of my life as Kau restaurant that night. It wasnt cheap, about 100euro for both of us with a beer each, but the quality was amazing, well cooked and tender.
Last joint of the day was in Homegrown for Insomnia Haze. The budtender here was really friendly and had a good chat about strains etc. Unfortunately he than put on System of A Down Toxicity at full volume, with only 5 of us being in the C/S it was a bit too much after the 5th album track so we departed to get a reasonably early night ready for our travels the next day.
Day 2-
Having never visited Haarlem before and having read it had some great C/S’s (thanks for the info FlyByNite) we got up early, had a wake and bake somewhere then took an early train to the town for breakfast an a doob.
First stop was High Times for Super Amnesia which was pretty awesome, nice smoke, great taste, good sized bud leaving us both mellow as hell!!
We had a walk about, took some pics, had some lunch, had another joint somewhere although no idea where!! Haarlem was a really nice little town, i would definately reccomend a daytrip for anyone wanting to get away from the busyness of Amsterdam. Its only 15minutes on the train so a half day an be done easily.
In the afternoon we headed back to Amsterdam to collect our bags from the hotel and head to Eindhoven as Saturday was Extrema Festival where we intended to get baked, dance like retards in the sunshine and pass out in the arms of a beautiful Dutch girl.
Train to Eindhoven was pretty quick and i would advise a trip to this amazing city. Its a lot different to Amsterdam, really chilled out, friendly people, great bars all on one street and good coffeeshops.
We checked into our hotel, Park Plaza Mandarin, which again we had stayed at the previous year when we went to Extrema. Great Hotel, superior room which was huge and two large beds that unlike the previous hotel were far enough apart so as not to appear to be behind with the rent for anyone coming in with room service!!

Next a big night out as our plans for one the previous night ended when rain stopped play. Tonight the weather was better and we headed out with the plan of just drinking as mixing weed always ends in disaster for me. Had a great night out in the busy bars and clubs which are all located on the same street, chatted to come local girls who were beautiful but seemed to think that Uk tourists only wanted ‘smoke and hoookeeers’!!!!! They were half right I suppose!
Danced for a bit and stupidly ended the night with a joint.... well, a joint followed by a good half an hour throwing up into the toilet!!
Day 3-
Woke up early, had a wake and back at Eurogarden Coffeshop where we bought Burberry Haze (good smoke, real nice taste and cheap too!), which was 100 yards from the hotel and caught the 12pm bus to Extrema festival.
Now, im not going to lie, having posted a thread regarding the festival i was informed that Dutch festivals were cracking down with anti drug policies. With a bit of research and some horror stories i was well paranoid upon entering and hid a few grams down my boxers. My mate hid his in his cig packed below the foil. Although we were patted down upon entry along with everyone else, nothing was found and confiscated and we had made it in with about 6 grams between us, enough for a day in the sunshine.
Had a blaze sitting by the lake, toked up and took in the surroundings. Sunshine, great dance music, beautiful girls and weed! Then the rain came! This wouldnt be too bad i thought, just a shower i suppose, and besides, imagine all the wet t-shirts!!! Unfortunately things didnt go as planned, it poured down for the rest of the day and some idiot decided it was a goo idea to hand out free ponchos- so not a wet tshirt in sight!!!
We had had enough by about 9.30 due to the extrema weather, and took a bus back to Eindhoven missing the lazer and firework show. For anyone interested in dance music, Extrema as an awesome festival, really safe, great location, great music, good layout, set around a lake with a sandy beach. Last year the weather was amazing, so much so i turned lobster red with sunburn and spent the rest of the holiday with the nickname from my mates ‘PB’ for ‘Paggered Bastard’. Suffice to say it wasnt a sexy look! Id highly recommend extrema and although sunshine all day would have been nice, it was still awesome fun. Hopefully the weather will be nice next year when i return!
Headed back to eindhoven, few joints in Grasshopper and in the bars down the main bar area. Pretty good night as i wasnt sick again!
Day 4
Spent the day walking around Eindhoven smoking weed and drinking beers. Visited Coffeeshop Pink for S5 Haze which wasnt bad and then onto Grasshopper Eindhoven for Santa Maria
Day 5
Woke up early, train back to Amsterdam. Checked into our last hotel, Inntel Hotel in Amsterdam Centre. Room was pretty good, dumped our bags and headed to Barneys to stock up... In Barneys we bought Blue Cheese. I like the weed from Barneys, some say a bit overpriced but i always find it good quality and it gets me battered! However, im not the biggest fan of the shop as it can get way too crowded so after a joint we headed to La Grotte for a few joints. During the day we visited a few shops for a smoke. I cant remember all of them as i only wrote down the ones we bought from but i do remember sitting in Coffeeshop Highway, for about 2 hours off my face sat here, smoked 4 joints watching a table of beautifull Irish girls.
Coffeeshop 36, best seat in the world! FACT
Coffeeshop Greenhouse Centrum, Green Crack cos we liked the name, good spot on the river,
Day 6
Woke up early and decided to head for a joint on my own as my mate was happily snoring away. As Coffeeshop Ben was just around the corner headed there and bought, G13 Haze and skinned up a joint. I dont smoke alone very often so left suitably battered!!
Then onto Dampkring, AK47- strongest smelling and my favourite smoke of the trip
De Grote Joint, very high now!
Last joint, Betty Boop just opposite Intell Hotel, sat outside and cried!
Until next time!

Eindhoven is really worth the trip, really friendly people, good nightlife, cheaper weed and not as full on as the Amsterdam experience. Kinda like a little chilled out town where you can smoke weed, i.e. HEAVEN!! Was way too high to really appreciate Haarlem, planning on returning this trip as its so close to Amsterdam and a really different vibe. Went to Dam for new years last year which was like a bad day in Bosnia with fireworks and explosions all over the place. It was good but a bit too crowded and dare i say it, a bit to scary for someone who is high as a mofo! Thats why im making this trip a few days later this time around. Counting down the days already- is that sad???

Nice report!

I went to Extrema Outdoor in 2006 and had a great time. The weather was really warm and that certainly made a difference. I also stayed at the Park Plaza but sadly only flew in for about 36 hours in total for the festival. My Dutch friends who I met there used to go every year but they said that it started to get very crowded from 2007 onwards and they now go to Awakenings festival instead. I went to it for the first time this summer and it was amazing, despite the fact it rained all day. Extrema has a wider selection of music on offer but if you're into techno then there's no better place than Awakenings. I'm probably telling you things you already know but you should also have a look at Lovelands and Mysteryland.

Fantastic rambling trip report, enjoyed the sense of being there-----a couple of the smaller points grabbed my attention

You got the tip of your finger bit off by a dog---OW that must have been sore

You and your pal paid 100E for 2 steaks ? wow

Liked the trip to Eindhoven, have been there once before for a football match about 20 years ago and liked it then.

PS liked the basic description of what you called Post Amsterdam Blues, I always feel like that too--I'm so wiped out it takes me a couple of weeks to appreciate what a good time I had
