December 19 - 30

Hey guys. I hope everyone is doing well. I am returning to the Dam for my 5th trip. I was lucky to be able to enjoy the beautiful city this past January and on some other trips beginning in November of 2002. I will definitely have some time for meet and greets and will keep up with this site using my laptop and my hotel's free (but slow) wifi. I am bringing 2 power adapters and a surge protector for my laptop this time. This past January, I'm fairly sure a power surge killed my laptop's power adapter. So my laptop was only good for a couple days of usage. This time I aim to be prepared and am hoping my laptop survives any power surges that strike.

Any assistance/advice regarding the high speed internet for my laptop will be greatly appreciated. And please let me know about the T&Ts. I'm looking forward to hanging with some other stoners as I will be in the Dam without my normal smoking buddies. Peace to all ...

You have been posted on the December Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/membe ... le&u=56015

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

jiwire knows aout 164 wifi hotspots.

wifi-amsterdam knows about some more

I kind of like the downstairs at Dolphins. A lot of shops have wifi if you can do business from a coffeeshop.

Of course all the McDonalds have wifi.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

200kbps should be plenty for voice over ip (though obviously upload speed is going to be just as important for others to hear you OK.) With an upload of 384, video and audio should work fine, but obviously not superb quality visuals. Re WiFi, in some areas of Amsterdam, quite a few residents leave their home WiFi unencrypted, so worth having a scan even if the bar/cafe you're in doesn't have their own.
I tend to take a 6 way UK mains adapter with me and just the one Euro>UK converter, if I've room in my luggage.
Have a great time.

Hey, thanks a lot for the responses. It sounds like there is plenty of sufficient WiFi available in Amsterdam. Hopefully, speed won't be an issue. I'll check out some of the options FlyByNite referred to and some other options I've listed below that look reliable.

I'm really looking forward to some T&Ts. I'll be checking back to make sure I see the latest that are scheduled. And I plan to reach out to some of you who have already said you'll be in Amsterdam during my stay.

So where is the best smoke this time around? I recall there being a thread just for this topic last time I was here. So I'll look for it in a minute. When I was there this past January, I fell in love with the Purple Kush (slightly different name like Purpleberry Kush maybe) at Cafe 420 and the Amnezia Haze from Stix. Unfortunately they were both about $14 euros per gram which I think is very expensive. I remember taking trips back in 2002 and 2004, and getting amazing herb for just $6 euros/gram. Back then Betty Boop had some delicious Blueberry and Bubblegum at 6 and Tweed Kamer had some amazing Jack Herer for 6. Oh well, time has passed and I've gotten older. But I still have to believe there is some uber-dank around for under 10. Cannot wait to begin another search.

Thanks again to all. Look forward to catching some of you in the Dam. :)

Actually, that delicious purpleberry kush was not from 420 Cafe but rather from Stones. It's a coffee shop on a corner and I remember I bought some really good dutch moonshine icolator there as well. Oh man, I cannot wait to get back there. Unfortunately it looks like the purpleberry has been removed from the menu. The search is on for the next great berry kush strain ... :)

Hey FlyByNite,

How fast have you found McDonald's wifi to be on average? Are we talking dial up modem speeds or decent broadband speeds? I assume it is probably pretty fast because I don't remember many people eating up bandwidth when I visited McDs on past trips. Thanks in advance.

I have no problem at all working from a coffee shop and will definitely check out Dolphins.

I just found an internet cafe that has exactly what I'm looking for and figured someone else may want to know about it. Only problem is it's a little further out than I'd like. But it has booths/stations where you can hookup your laptop and speeds up to 16Mbps.

Hi,
Does anyone know of anywhere in Amsterdam with broadband internet access, not wifi and it doesn't have to be a smoking cafe.
I'll be in the dam end of next week, any T&T's for Friday or the weekend yet?

Yes, internet cafes are easy to find in Amsterdam. They all have computers to use. The reason I posted is I don't recall them having high speed wifi or ethernet hookups available for laptops. But it sounds like you'll be covered for either scenario of high speed access: using a cafe's computer or using your own via wifi or direct ethernet hookup. All of the cafe's listed below will allow you to use one of their computers for broadband access. And there are others you'll see if walking about the Old Center of Amsterdam. Check out Cyber Lounge if you need to get a direct, high speed hookup for your laptop.

Must be great being able to visit the Dam so often. I'm jealous. I get in town the 19th. Let's keep in touch and help each other find the best strains. I'll be looking for a nice indica like purpleberry from Stones, and a super high sativa like amnesia haze from Stix. The amnesia i got from Stix last January was so full of trichome it hardly had any plant/calyxes you could see. It actually smelled a bit like fuel. Definitely the most resinous sativa I have ever seen. Sure hope they have quality like that again.

Let's have/join a T&T if possible and share our best finds. Hope you have happy travels. I'm sure you will.

Hey FlyByNite,

Is there a T&T calendar? Or should I just search for T&T threads in the Travel Plans section? I couldn't find much happening between 12/19-30. I think it would be fun to do a coffee shop crawl. Have about a 15 minute smoke at each place and a longer break every few shops. I've easily been to 50 shops but still have so many others to see.

Gapie,

Are you working at a bar with good micro brews not too far from Betty Boop (looks like an easy walk from the map I checked)? If so, I'll stop by sometime and check it out. I like a good pale ale and IPA (USA style). But I recently had Belgium's version of a pale ale and it was very different. Too sweet for my taste.
