I remember saying "thank you" in Dutch a lot my first trip, then realized that 90% of the people I was talking to ain't even Dutch.

It's funny how Amsterdam to do lists can get carried over year after year.
It took me three trips to walk through Vondel park and around five years to go native and rent a bike.

Along with vapor bags, this year I intend to cross visiting Muidersloot castle and having a late night rijstaffel at Bojos off my list.

Before my journey I always mark my old school map (they sell the same ones at the 420 Cafe) with coffeeshops or other special places that I haven't seen yet. Then at some point when I am in the right mood and the weather is good, I head out for a search mission. I have great memories of walking in the sun while smoking haze joints and simply exploring and enjoying the shit out of Amsterdam. Even after a decade and... 18  trips to Amsterdam there still are a few places that I missed out.

Last summer I had problems to find coffeeshop YOYO. First I thought that I marked it in the wrong street. Then a few days later when I tried again, I realized that the place was camouflaged out of my perception with all the plants that grew at the building. Anybody else had trouble with finding it? Or was I just too stoned?

What else I have to do... Visit friends and people I know from previous visits, stay up late every night, get up early every morning (unless the weather sucks), basicly smoke weed at least every 30 minutes, buy some special beer that reminds me of home, watch people go by while stoned at busy locations, riding the trams stoned, riding my bike stoned, actually to sum it up just be stoned & high all the way through

peace & merry xmas

Eat some traditional Dutch food. Meat, potatoes, veg and gravy type thing. Hap Hmm, which is 5 mins walk from the Leidseplein is excellent and very cheap. You will probably be the only tourists there, but the staff are friendly and welcoming. The grandmother's meatballs dish is fantastic, try it.

Food:

Burger Bar
Barney's (for overpriced food but you can blaze while you eat)
Try Febo!!! Not the greatest but definately an experience
Frites (in those big ass cones with Mayo or with frites sauce)

Misc stuff

- Red Light District
- Thai Massage = wicked
- Vondel park
- a picture with the big ass "I AMSTERDAM" display ( I believe in front of Van Gogh museum)

Coffeeshops

I always try and go to at least 2-3 coffeeshops I have yet to visit. If not in Amsterdam, then in surrounding cities like Haarlem
Now, I don't do drugs, just weed

Step 1. Arrive in Amsterdam
Step 2.
matty223 wrote:relax, smoke, relax
Step 3. (repeat step 2)

8) actually ... MUST do is a pretty wide net. Must have shelter. Must eat. Must great cannabis. Must beer (See steps 2-3  ). Must see something NEW if possible.

Some musts have remained (near) constant (shelter - Bulldog Hostel) (eat - DeKlos) while some have come and gone. So much to see, so many great museums, churches, shops, bike riding, coffee shops  ... LIFE :!: .

Bike riding to the beach is my next MUST so I am hoping for good weather in May. Also, getting my cousin on the Sint Nicholas canal boat tour, he would LOVE to steer the boat.

But if I had to pick one must, it's I must be immersed the Amsterdam scene once a year.

must, go to grey area, go to green place, go to the doors and buy the morrison haze, go to hill street blues for the graffiti, get hot chocolates, tropical juice, and red bulls, eat, eat again, buy smoking stuff, go to the bulldog lounge but dont buy the weed, always ask to see and smell the product before u buy, buy food from coffee shops if youve got a good seat, watch your change when your buying just about anything

dont not, let yourself get too stoned till u end up just walking around getting lost with out realising it, its funny the first time, but if this is happening the whole trip it can grow old.

Without accomplishing this, everything else is just not the same.
